Rosa, i’m so sorry about all of those Boston people lost in the plane crash. What a sad event.
Yes, it is such a tragedy.
It's very sad, although not anyone I know personally. Now there's another plane crash in Philadelphia. I think I'm feeling a little bit numb to most of the news I'm hearing these days, total negativity overload.
I'm personally feeling more devastated by news of the bird flu, which is apparently taking out bald eagles, snowy owls and other raptors. Seeing pictures from local birders of eaglets feeding on carcasses of Canadian geese, presumed to be infected, really hurts my heart.

Selfishly, I'm so glad we don't have a flock of chickens currently, I'd be even more stressed. I'm slightly worried about the barn cats, but they are getting fat, old and lazy - plus DH feeds them excessively - so birding may be beyond them. They barely take half-hearted swipes at the mice who steal food from under their noses. Literally. They think it's just Cat TV or something. So hopefully will avoid avian infections... but I am very worried about the wildlife here overall. Many animals will happily eat dead birds, or something that does eat dead birds... and avian flu has infected non-avian species before.

Apparently avian flu can be spread via bird droppings. And cats are particularly susceptible to it. So even if they're not going after mice or birds, they could still be exposed to it.
20 big cats at a sanctuary in the west died from it. An otter at a Chicago zoo. And apparently dolphins. It's really spread amongst dairy cattle.
I'm not worried about avian flu. The CDC removed access to online datasets and current tracking info this week, so I'm sure we're all just fine.
Unrelated, here in the PNW we are constructing our own dark-web medical information system, given the recent collapse of the federal resources available to us. Good luck to you all.

Eggs came in today and guess what a dozen large eggs are retailing for here in Phoenix?
Ready? Are you sure?
$7.49. Absolutely insane. Eggs are now for the upper 15 percent. Rob
PS And I don't mean to gloss over this tragedy.....all those young skaters gone in a flash. Horrible.

My eggs are about as cheap as they have ever been.

Just under $7 for 18 in the Chicago area. I will continue to eat them nearly daily. They’re a cheap source of protein and much less messy to cook with than meat.

Guess it’s a good thing you like Mexican food. You can get your protein from beans instead.

It is really too bad about the price of eggs because that has always been a wholesome, inexpensive source of protein.

I’m still buying them. Won’t give them up. Cheaper than meat.

I eat them every day. They're $5-6 a dozen from our local providers. I agree they're a lot less messy than meat!

My overpriced market here on the island has nice looking pork loin on sale this week for $3/pound. One pound of lean pork loin has 140 grams of protein. 46.66 grams of protein/dollar.
A dozen large eggs have 72 grams of protein. When I was in the market yesterday, it looked like they were asking ~$6 for a dozen "OK-ish" looking eggs, so that's 12 grams of protein/dollar.

The last time we had a surge of bird flu we saw, in the city, a surge of rabbits because the birds of prey population was reduced. Was not good for our edible garden.
I have heard the news about avian flu and cats. Will have to worry about our ferals here in Hermann.

I keep forgetting to mention how happy I am about the easing up of censorship on at least some of the major socials. I have seen perfectly reasonable Facebook posts zapped during the Biden administration. One of the disappeared posts happened during Covid where my friend’s quote from the CDC—verbatim quote—was deleted for wrong speak.
That was an insane time.
Here’s what Zuck has to say about the refinement at Facebook:
“…In lieu of fact-checkers, Facebook will employ a "Community Notes" model like the one used on X.
As it operates on X, Community Notes allows users to add context and corrections to other people's posts, though studies show it can be slower and cover different subjects than professional fact-checking.
Zuckerberg also said the site would relax its policies for moderating posts and allow more content on issues including "immigration and gender" instead of taking them down. (According to a Wired review, some of these changes appear to have already gone into effect.)
For users interested in seeing more political content, Zuckerberg noted that Meta plans to reintroduce more of these posts into people's feeds as well.”
The censorship on the Reddits can be pretty heavy handed but that is ok with me because each sub Reddit has its own rules and moderating team and yes, they can be ridiculous. I was booted from one sub Reddit, can’t remember which one, for merely being a member of the Dave Chappelle sub. I had not said anything that could vaguely be considered inflammatory so the mods were obviously comparing lists of their members to other “subversive” subs.
The little mod tyrants are so very convinced of their righteousness, haha.

There was a great Bari Weiss interview with the chief of the Babylon Bee about the various efforts to shut them up. There were the usual legal attacks, deplatforming efforts, etc. But one of the sillier weapons used against them were some ludicrously prissy “fact checks” that wanted to make sure that we understood that the administration didn’t in fact purchase laundry equipment to better spin the truth. I’m not convinced most fact checking sites are all that interested in objective truth.
Reddit is kind of a weird platform. It seems to work like a cultural centrifuge, extracting out and concentrating various viewpoints in their most unadulterated forms.
Definitely will be seeing lots of propaganda. False news here we come. Keep the populance in line with mis/disinformation.

Don’t do facebook so couldn’t tell you.

I seem to get censored in Facebook groups when I place direct links to CDC or NIH web pages. The posts get placed in “pending” status, and the group moderator is not notified. Manual search and repair has to happen each time. This happened during the Biden years, and is still going on as recently as 2-3 days ago. I think some robo-censor has its settings totally wonky.
I suppose this won’t be much of a problem soon though.

I think you meant to say "Keep the resistance motivated with mis/disinformation."
It will all just be newspeak once the resistance has been marginalized or replaced with loyal political appointees.

I think you meant to say "Keep the resistance motivated with mis/disinformation."Not necessary. Reality is more than enough to keep the resistance motivated against this unprecedented evil. Rob
