Blood test for colon cancer

recently I had the blood test for colon cancer. This is a new screening device. I probably don’t have to have another colonoscopy ever in my life because I’m approaching the age where it’s no longer recommend, and this last test was negative.

has anyone else had this test?

It was not an option for me. Iron count low, determined I was bleeding internally somewhere, which triggered the colonoscopy, in which they couldn't get the camera up me.

I am not due for another 3 years, but I will probably pursue that option if I can.

I did that once, too.iT showed a hint of something, so I had to have a colonoscopy, which was negative.

Ditto rr. I'm not due for a couple more years yet, so will look into that when the time comes.

I had my semi-annual physical this morning and asked my doctor. He said he didn't know enough about it to recommend it and he wasn't sure if it had full approval among the medical community, for what it's worth. I do the mail in sample. He said that any of method screening for colon cancer after the age of 75 isn't recommended if there are no physical symptoms such as bleeding and that my next Cologuard could be my last. I imagine it's one of those things that could change as they learn more. He said the gold standard is still the colonoscopy and that the risk of intestinal perforation is low.

IL, do you know how often the blood test is recommended? Something to keep in mind to ask the doctor about later.

I don’t know how often it is recommended. My doctor is really into tests so I wouldn't be surprised if this test is a bit outlier. But
medicare is paying for it so it must be accepted. Since I am not at known risk for colon cancer, I do not want another coloscopy, I don’t mind giving blood, and MedicRe pays, I thought “why not?”

It did require a lot of blood, though…4 vials.

okayyy-----so yeah---I think it'd be real nice(jim dandy handy) if you kids could just go into any pharmacy like walmarts or walgreens or wherever, and they'd have a collonoscopy kiosk right out there where you'could sit right down and get an exam, with no waiting & get the results & be on your way. yup. you BET. o'course--that's cut the $250k a year hospital proctologists or whatever outta the loop, unless you tested positive.
