I have made lavender wands or "bottles" with fresh lavender on the stem. My sister took a collection of vintage handkerchiefs that had belonged to our great-aunt and made lavender sachets with them by filling them up and tying them with ribbon.

Old lace tablecloths make good sachets and I have seen them as Christmas tree hangings.
My parents had a wonderful lavender wreath so that's what I would do if I had a lot of lavender, hang it on the front door.
Oh, and lavender cookies.

I wonder if your sister dried the lavender first or used fresh lavender in the sachets. I have quite a few vintage hankies. My gazingus pin.

This was the wreath, from Williams Sonoma. I bought it for them in the 90's and it was still on their front door when they went into assisted living.

Kay: My sister bought a bag of dried lavender for the sachets.

Tybee: I have always admired those wreaths, but have wondered how they would stand up to the inevitable bumping and brushing against that would happen on a frequently-used door.

We use it in baked goods. We've made in tea-cookies and several coffee cakes. I bought lavender for this, but I'm sure you could use your own. I'm a dab hand at killing lavender plants, so I generally just buy what I need. I also really like lavender coffee. We currently buy the coffee syrup, but I think I'm going to try a simple syrup with the lavender I have.

We have a lavender farm in Hermann and the lavender lady has a little shop in Hermann. Our garden club went out to visit her lavender farm a couple weeks ago, but I didn’t go. There’s many different kinds of lavender and she gave an educational talk last year about the good with culinary uses, and those that are not.

Lavender is known to help with sleep. Many put dried or cotton balls with lavender essential oil near or on their pillow. I have used lavender essential in homemade insect repellent too. I always take pure lavender essential oil when staying in a hotel and put a few drops in the bed to deter bedbugs….plus it helps with sleep. A little goes a long way though…
