The Summer solstice was last Friday, and now it's blazing hot. I'm enjoying the heat, but I know I'm probably alone here. Remember to drink lots of water.

Here's my challenge list

Summer trip
Summer reading

I have a modest list for the summer:

Stain garden chairs we made in carpentry class (This has been on my list before; they've been in my mother's garage for 5 years. Will this be the year??? lol)
Prune Halesias
Get lockbox for Mom's house (from spring list, never done)
Get new PCP for Mom
Clean Mom's house thoroughly
Experiment with watercolor set I bought a couple of months ago

Hope everyone had a happy Fourth

Finish cardigan done
Decide on travel project done
Summer trip packing next week
Summer reading in progress
July Finish It Pippi Socks 50% done
August Finish It not sure
September Finish It haven't thought that far ahead
Work on Spider quilt 10%

Finished the cardigan on July 1st, would've been earlier, but I lost the buttons and took a couple of days to find them. It's wrapped and ready to give to my mom on her birthday. July Finish It is a pair of Pippi Longstocking socks as a birthday gift for a niece. She's obsessed with all things Pippi so I'm using my yarn scraps to make her a pair of socks like her favorite character. She's visiting her grandparents in August and I'll give them to her then.

Big Pippi fans in our family, three generations now. My kids were obsessed with the movie and my 43 year old can still sing the song.

Coordinate DH's transition to Medicare (dental plan, transfer scripts, bring new insurance cards to pharmacy, arrange for HSA reimbursement from my former employer)
Acquire cobblestones for Lynn Woods Rose Garden restoration (all beds are edged in cobblestones except one large bed, and I'm poaching cobbles from an abandoned bed at my mother's house)

Niblings are surprised I still know the song, I reminded them I watched it with their moms when they were kids. My sisters and I watched a German Pippi tv series when we were stationed in Europe in the 80s. We learned a bit of German from the show. Pippi socks for myself was one of the first things I knitted when I learned how to knit socks. Got her to read more by showing her other books by Astrid Lindgren.

NSWEF: It's a smallish tree, native a bit south of us, that gets pretty white flowers in the spring. We have 2 of them that we planted at least 30 years ago, and they are quite large at this point. When we get a lot of rain, they tend to get pretty overgrown and we can't see the birdfeeder or the gazebo, or really much from our back door.

I remember dressing as Pippi Longstockings for Halloween as a kid. Coat hanger wire in my braids to make them stick oit at an angle.

Glad I didnt have any reference to a song and dance number from a movie about her.

Thank you rosa.https://www.missouribotanicalgarden....sia%20carolina (https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=287278&isprofile=1&basic=Halesia%20carolina) Are the fall nuts a problem? We have a huge chinese chestnut tree that drops burrs that must be picked up and disposed of. But it is such a beautiful tree...Dogwoods are great, too.
No mess!

We don't really consider them a problem. They aren't terribly messy and the squirrels like to eat them.

Back from vacation and getting back into the work routine. Holiday was great and niblings are visiting next week. Pippi socks are finished, need to wrap them. 60% done with the travel project. Husband needs the car in August, so the travel project will be the waiting for the bus project. Need to figure out the August and September Finish It projects. Made some progress on the spider quilt.

Joined the library's summer reading program to encourage the niblings on their summer reading. The library was read for 30 days, and bonus reading is read for an extra 10 days and a title to the community recommended book list. Not doing it for the prizes, a coupon for a free book at the annual library book sale and tickets to the local pro soccer team, sponsor of the reading program.

Figured out the September Finish It another sock that will be a Christmas gift. Will finish the August Finish It project next week.

Buy nothing August continues, promised the niblings a pizza party during their visit a couple of weeks ago before I decided to do a buy nothing month. I put the pizza in the allowed costs. Nibling loved the Pippi socks. Should think about the Fall to do list

I guess my completed challenges are: I have finished 10 days of garden club/plant Society events. 10 solid days of it all.

I attended multi day symposiums where I had to drive long distances, I hosted a luncheon for the executive committee of one of my groups, and I was a major organizer for our big plant society annual potluck and auction.

Now we’re having some nice weather and I need to get a bunch of iris in the ground and clean out at least two beds for replanting. Yeah we’ll see if this happens

Iris-That is my idea of hell...10 days with meetings, driving and people!! And HOSTING! You deserve to do absolutely nothing for a month! Enjoy working in your yard.

I know, right? I’m pretty much an introvert and I can spend hours/days/weeks without busily interacting with people. Yet I do enjoy the activities I sign up for, I just wish they didn’t all come in a big clump. Or maybe I *DO *prefer they come in a big clump and I can have downtime in between. I guess it works.

I had nonstop flower and garden activities from April 4 until June 9, and I had planned to just vegetate for a couple of weeks after that. Well, you know what? The vegetative state lasted well over a month and I had to scurry around to meet obligations for August. I was a little embarrassed by my laziness.

Buy Nothing August successful and the money saved went into tires for the car. Tires ordered and waiting for them to arrive at the shop so I can schedule installation. I'll finish the September Finish It project this week and slow and steady work continues on the Spider quilt.

Hana, please start a fall thread and I will join in. It doesn't feel like I did a damned thing this summer.
Got my granddaughter Children of Noisy Village and my son said he wants to read it aloud to them as he remembers it.
