So this is a frugal > unfrugal > frugal again. I have been cutting DH's hair at home since April 2020 at the height of covid, when all barbershops and hairdressers were closed. I never had hairdresser aspirations, but I watched some Youtube videos and gave it my best shot. I did pretty well overall, but was never entirely satisfied with my ability to transition from the short sideburns to the longer hair on top of his head. I was particularly dissatisfied after his July haircut, and I told him I wanted him to go to a barber next time. He has a wonderful, thick head of hair, and I didn't feel like I was doing it justice.
So in August, he went to the barber, and got the shortest haircut ever. He looked like he had just been drafted or been in prison or something. In August, he went to another barber and got what DH called "The Mushroom Head" look with the top way too long relative to the sides. So yesterday, I cut his hair again, and I think I found a better strategy for handling that difficult transitional area. Anyway, we both agree that his hair looks the best it has looked in months, so I guess I'm back in business as a barber!
I’ve quit buying coffee at McD in the am. It’s gotten too expensive. More than $3 for a large. I bring tea from home now. I still get my sausage McMuffin but that’s only $2.50.

oh that’s great that you’re a decent hair cutter. I can’t get DH to even trim the back of my hair. I’ve been cutting my own hair for 40 years and you could say “yeah it looks like it “but since I don’t see the back of my head myself, I don’t pay that much attention to it. It is shoulder length so it’s easier to cut your own hair when it’s long. I could not maintain a short haircut myself
I've been cutting my hair for the past 25 years or so. I keep it fairly short so it's fairly simple to use the #2, #3 and #4 combs on my clippers to graduate the length a bit from bottom to top. My wife graciously trims the back for me since I can't see back there either.

DH cut my hair during COVID. i found a cutting set with youtube videos. I loved it. He HATED cutting my hair! BTW he disliked the way I cut his hair then too. He told me he would do the Willie Nelson look rather than have me cut his hair. So both of us pay for haircuts now.

I think that's a sensible choice, since making coffee or tea at home involves a lot less effort than making the sausage, egg, and muffin. Use your dollars where they benefit you the most.
Limiting eating out to twice a month. Just not worth the price anymore so home cooking is it.

Don’t know how old you are but McD’s has senior priced coffee.
Per AI…
Many McDonald's locations offer discounts on coffee for senior citizens, typically around 10-15% off or a small coffee priced at about 80 cents. However, the availability of these discounts can vary by location, so it's best to ask at your local restaurant.

Late 50s. Anyway, a small is an insult in the am when I need caffeine!

You could buy two small coffees for about $1.60...

This is what we need to do. We have found that even getting a hamburger at a hamburger joint is about twenty dollars for one person, so now we are splitting meals.
We were out running errands and caved to eating out at a hole in the wall Mexican restauarant. Street tacos with no sides for both of us - $30. Crazy prices.
