Not sure if this belongs in Holidays or here but I thought I'd start one. I'm going to try to come up with five for this year. So far I only have two:

1. stop checking student papers for plagiarism and AI. If the school does not care, why should I.

2. Either fix the uneven floors in my house or move to a different house. It's been five years and I can't take it anymore.

Don’t have any resolutions, but I just have a list of Tasks to complete.

I also don't have resolutions, really. Although if I did, I would be more intentional about contacing friends and family members. I'm way too remiss at that. I would like to call a couple of my cousins and my sister-in-law once every couple of months at least. I really love these people, and I don't know why I don't work harder at nurturing good relationships.

I know! I have a ready-made social group here on my block of retirees who are gardeners. Two of my immediate neighbors are in the garden club here. And do you think I’ve invited them over for anything? No, I have not. This is just dumb. Hell I don’t even know how to call them.

I say that I miss my old neighborhood due to the physical proximity where we are all so close we were friends. But that’s not really what’s going on here because heck I’ve got physical proximity here. You know what’s missing? Honestly, I fear it’s the alcohol!

we drank rather a lot in Lafayette Square, heh heh.

Haha! Well, a couple of years ago I started a shared Google sheet for my Master Gardener group of us 5 old ladies. We list our project assignments on it. One of the tabs I made was a contact sheet, which works great. Maybe you could start there!

Feeling very "stuck" this past year so hope to figure out some solutions:
Finish our/my end of life/estate plan.
Get rid of things I no longer need or like.
Figure out where in Hades we want to grow old.
Make a gardening plan that doesn't tether me to the work of tending all growing season.
There are others but indecision and comfort with status quo rules all without concrete steps.

oh I could find Jeanette’s number because she’s in the garden club directory, but Diana is brand new and we haven’t seen a new directory yet.

I kept detailed records in my old Lafayette Square neighborhood of everyone on my block and the block one down because I was “block captain “and I had to know how to reach them. Now that I think about it, I should’ve put it on a shared Google sheet. But I found that most people wouldn’t use the shared Google Docs we had for our board. I have since forgotten how to use it and got stuck recently, using it for another garden club’s thing.

Had AI compile the best diet and exercises for the medical conditions I have. Now need to put on the calendar to implement. One doc is sending me for a sleep study (may be major factor in one condition) and another sending me to a nutritionist. Need to work diligently to maintain quality of life!

I had a sleep study done through the home testing equipment for 2 nights. I think you are right to go elsewhere to a sleep study center, that is if you think you can get a night’s sleep that simulates normal sleep.

I thought the rules around receiving and returning this equipment were overly restrictive, and the equipment itself seemed janky and I’m not sure it came up with an accurate reading in sleep apnea resuls, but yeah I do test positive on the sleep apnea scale. This is something that GLP-1 meds are prescribed for.

Ugh, sleep apnea. my original sleep study was done in a lab and seemed really professional. I did one years later and it was with a pulmonology practice but it was a take home monitor, no real monitoring. I have little faith in it as the dr said I was the worst case he'd ever seen, told me to buy a new c-pap, and did sod-all follow up. So I figured I wasn't all that bad. I don't use the c-pap, hate it intensely. I sleep slightly reclined in my chair, snore little while sleeping that way, and almost always wake up rested. Based on that, I have concluded that sleep apnea is caused by either a vaccine or by the c-pap machine industry /s ;). I really do need to loose a significant amount of weight, as my A1C has slid into the diabetic range. *sigh* So my resolution, should I actually make one, will be in the "eat better, exercise more" area.

just today. I started carefully looking at the amount of protein. I’m eating. Much to my unhappy surprise, I’m not eating nearly enough protein. It looks like I’m going to have to have meat and beans with every meal. Fortunately, I love black beans. I love chickpeas. but man that’s a lot of beans.

I’m also ordering the stupid protein drinks. probably I need to look into “protein powder.”

My New Year's resolution is to get out of the house more --maybe by signing up for yoga classes. I used to do yoga a few years back but stopped and I miss it--and the nice folks I met through yoga. And I need the relaxation & grounding as the world weighs heavily these days with the news from D.C.

Many of my new year wishes have been mentioned by others... eat better, exercise, etc. I also need some "direction". Since I retired, the traveling was great! And now the holidays are keeping me semi-busy. But, I'm not sure what to do after the holidays. Still trying to declutter, still looking for a place to downsize and grow old, still planning some trips closer to home. But, the times I'm sitting in the house... blah!

I'll get there. I'm just not liking this transitory stage of my life very much.

I bet with time you will explore new things and find a new comfort level with activities. I agree with you about sitting in the house.

Yes, happystuff, it is hard to know what to do. I’m sure you do the same but … I have a bookmark on my computer of places I check each month (libraries, senior centers, elks, american legion, area musical groups, performing arts center, etc) to see what they have going on. It is surprising the number of free or low cost excellent things to do. We recently took a class at Total Wine that was really fun… who woulda thought? Hope you find your groove soon!

The only resolution I am imposing on myself is to get outdoors more, earlier in the day if needed. I stayed in way too much last year (heat, smoke). I've signed up for a community garden plot, so that may help.

The beginning of last year I started mentally picking one thing each day that I am or was thankful for. There are quite a few articles around about journaling for mental health, but especially scientific support for a daily gratitude. Not that I have any big issues, but it was somewhat elevating to review what things during the days I was thankful for. I suppose technically this should be written journal, but I kept up with the thought process for quite a while and just today was reminded to renew. I may think about writing it this year.

A while back I read "Atomic Habits". I was pretty basic, but an actionable plan. I've noticed just lately it's come up again in popular book lists. I may give it another read.

I was in the Rancho Gordo bean club for a couple of years recently. They have a couple of dozen specialty bean varieties that they sell and they are all a bit different. They've been featured in the NYT a couple of times. They average maybe $7 a pound, but considering a pound of dry makes 3 pounds of cooked, it's not bad. Plus their web site has good recipes. I like to put on a pot of beans to cook on cold days. I'll be ordering their minimum for free shipping soon, which should last for many months. I freeze some portions ofter cooking.

Being mostly vegan with a few excursions off the vegan wagon when dining out and fish night once a week, protein is something I try to track in my diet and it's hard to get what some recommend for older people. Most mornings I have a "Garden of Life Full Meal Replacement" blended shake with a little fruit for flavor and have done so for years.

Several years ago DH grew several kinds of beans, dried beans. That was an interesting experiment and those beans lasted us for about three years. Every day he came home from work and shelled in front of the television. that in itself was a lot of work.

but those fresher beans were great. Newly picked and recently dried lima beans are sublime, compared to the old dried out things normally available,

My resolution for next year is to try and get to the bottom of why I still feel like crap, from the years before the TOS surgery in 2024 until the present. I am going to approach it like I did to get my definitive diagnosis for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome - start with local doctors and see what happens, see if they can direct me to someone knowledgable.

I am wondering if I might have fibromyalga. I haven't felt well in so long - daily, chronic muscle pain, sometimes extreme (I've been having full-on muscle spasms in my back for the past week), chronic fatigue, plus a general malaise for a very long time. It is time I take it seriosly and start looking into things.

I'm sure I'm splitting hairs, but I prefer to mentally frame it as "goals and objectives" for the new year, rather than "resolutions." I think that sounds more like moving forward and making progress, rather than being broken and needing fixing. Anyway, one thing that is important to me is to get back on track with taking regular walks outdoors. We took a walk yesterday in the cold and the snow, and it was very nice.

I am going to try to not eat so much junk when I get home from work/before dinner. I am not even that hungry. I have gotten into the habit of eating a bunch of snacks when I get home to the point where sometimes my stomach hurts and I am not hungry for dinner.

So many interesting ideas about how to improve our lives! I realize I should add a health goal, too. I want my list to be kind of short. The floor one may be too big, so I am taking that one off, as a bit beyond my control, possibly.

I have never been one for New Year's Resolutions, but I decided that I would keep a detailed budget to see where money is going and to ensure there is no frivolous spending.

I've prepared a spreadsheet to track each and every dollar coming in and out. I've also included a section to track each saving and investing account monthly.
