I've been away for awile but have been here in spirit. Right now I'm scared *expletive-less over what's going on but will refrain from discussing politics. I just wish everyone safety regardless of your beliefs. I remember there was a regular poster here a few years back from the MSP - I wish them most especially safety. I don't know what else to say in these unprecedented times. Rob

You are not the only one feeling scared! Project 2025 is in full force and worse IMO.

always good to have everyone around! Anyone heard from razz? I miss her here. And unprecedented times, indeed. Getting pretty terrified myself. Sometimes it's hard, being an atheist in this particular time and place. Sometimes I really really want a hell for evil people to burn in.

Thank you, Iris. So glad to see the forum is still here!! The first thing that comes up with googling is a note from Dave Wampler saying the forum disbanded in 2010, posted back when the members babied it back to life. Guess the algorithm doesn't like simplicity very much.

Also glad to see the familiar faces. Even LittleBittyBobby, by god. How long have we been sparring ... 30 years? I noticed my profile still said I was 47. Sigh.

I think I first showed up here in 1999/2000.

I was here in spring 2001.

It is too bad razz quietly disappeared. Also, Ldahl is absent.

Can't remember when I joined (with a different name)- but Diana from Wisc. was here, and stella had no kids. I'm not even sure she was married. So that's back a bit. I do think IL was here (fauxpas, I think?), so maybe about that time. I miss razz and Ldahl, though I generally only agreed with one of them, lol.

I am on a Facebook closed group with .diana in Wisc and Stella and Anne and another person whose screen name here I can’t remember.

stella’s eldest is getting married.

Diana continues to be a dynamo of “get it done!” frugality and practicality.

we have lost members due to death in the last couple of years. We are all getting old.

I was wondering about Lhamo. When I was checking in I saw LDAHL popped up about a month ago.

IIR, I changed my screenname to Karen In Bisbee when I moved to Bisbee, which was in 1999. Changed it to Kib when someone pointed out I was maybe being a bit too accessible - how many Karens does Bisbee actually have - and someone IRL actually recognized me, which was shocking. So I had an alias here before Karen In Bisbee, some kind of link through YMOYL, which I read around 1996. Not 100% sure of the timeline, but it's been at least a quarter of a century.

ETA: Dave Wampler's goodbye was written in 2010, and he said he had been at it for 15 years.

Lhamo is VERY active on Oh My Dollar and somewhat active on Mr. money Mustache.

OMD is not my vibe but it has entertainment value for me. Oh, Madgey Lou who once hung out ‘round here posts there regularly. She is extremely talented in many artistic areas. Some of the OMG girls are refugees from MMM because of the offensive bro culture at MMM doncha know.

thanks for the update IL. Oh, Madgey Lou made those lovely shift dresses, didn't she? Personally, I do find much on MMM offensive, so I just don't go there anymore. To each his/her own!

MMM lost its lustre for me a while back. Loud, braggy, competitive, rude, really not very insightful or helpful ... is that bro culture? They can keep it. Checked out OMD today, thanks Iris, I spotted Lhamo, hoping to find a little backstory about how she's back in PNW. OMD not exactly my vibe either, perhaps, but certainly more pleasant.

Lhamo retired around 10 years ago. She got divorced in the past 18 months. Her children are out of high school and are young adults. She bought a house in Seattle that needs major work and is busy working on her house and , developing a big garden. She might pop in to say hello

I like the rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere of MMM but I think the moderators are little pussies. OMD has precious little information about financial matters. It does, however, have endless amounts of angst, stress, and unhappiness.

I also miss the presence of Apathetic No More and Herbgeek. There are a lot of others, probably too many to list, and I'll always forget someone. I miss JP as well, but he let us know he was leaving. I enjoyed Jeppy too, but I do feel that she bullied some other members away, which I was not OK with. Do we know if Dado Potato is OK? He only chimed in once in awhile, but it seems like it's been a very long time, and I believe he was one of our elder members.

As a fellow atheist, I must say this is the most unique reason I've ever seen of someone wishing they could believe, lol. I certainly cannot disagree!

I've been catching up with her journal over there. Funny, I could spot your posts immediately! Knew it was you before I even checked the username. So much for internet anonymity. Hope that doesn't sound stalker-y, I just feel a glimmer of peace, feeling like there is some thread of community / continuity in my life, no matter how thin.

You are not the only one feeling scared! Project 2025 is in full force and worse IMO.I feel like I'm sleepwalking through 1937 in Austria. Things are taking place that even I would not have believed would happen. One example is Canada stating that if Greenland is invaded they will draw arms against the United States.

CANADA! Good luck fixing that any time soon. But I'd best go before I go too far. Stay safe frugal one and anyone else reading. It's CRAZY out there. Rob

All NATO countries will be against the USA. Another moronic move by trump. Also more tariffs and more increased prices because of his lunacy. Need hats that say “make donald go away”!

I live *right* on the US/Canada border. I can *row a small boat* to Canada. I can see out my window Canada's main Pacific naval base, they can probably hit my house without untying from the dock. Their naval vessels cruise through the waters of my islands constantly. (I just looked up the weapons systems on some of their frigates, and they could flatten Seattle without leaving the dock.)

This is not making me feel particularly safe, especially with the amount of cross-border cooperation we constantly do for emergency services....
