I took a load of stuff to the recycling center today. A young woman was also there, doing her recycling. We smiled at each other. I was getting ready to leave and she said "My dog locked my keys in my car! I live close enough, I could probably walk home" Then she went into the office to call someone. Then it hit me (duh!) I could drive her to her house. I went in and told her I could drive her and she said okay.
Her house was actually quite a walk from the center, so I was glad she didn't walk.....especially since her car was running and the dog was in a really hot car.

Anyhow........I drove her to her house and she got her spare key and we went back to her car. She was very appreciative. But my point is..........it was so nice to think that we can do things for strangers and not get murdered or abducted. What a wonderful world it would be if we could just all trust each other.

It was a very nice interaction. It was also very funny, because, locked in the car, the dog kept honking the horn. :laff:

What a nice story. It shouldn't be out of the ordinary for us to have interactions like this, but sad to say, it is. It is great when it works out and you feel connected to a person who moments before was a total stranger. One Christmas Eve 8 or 9 years ago, my husband and I were in our local Barnes and Noble for the evening. Being Christmas Eve the store announced its early closing and we headed for the parking lot. Another man, a total stranger, was also walking to his car and looked over at us and said "they're closing down the bar.". I still remember that, so simple, but a shared moment with someone unexpected, unknown.

Wouldn't it be nice to live in a world where we didn't have that fear, but could help others with complete trust...

So often we pass on opportunities to do good, either because of that fear, or we don't want to get involved, or simply it just isn't convenient.

The world needs more CathyA's ! :+1:

That was nice of you, CathyA. My niece's dog locked her out of her car on New Year's Day a couple years ago and had to call a locksmith to get the car open. I'm sure the woman you helped really appreciated it.

Yesterday when I stopped by the post office, there was an elderly woman making her way towards the door. She seemed to be having some trouble walking, so I waited and held the door for her. As I was walking in, a man touched my arm and said, "When you do good, it comes back to you." And then he walked away. I thought that was kind of nice.

I think there are a lot of people who do nice, good, easy things every day to help others, it just never makes the news. Thanks for sharing Cathy, reminding us of the good that is out there. I know you inspired the woman as well to do something good for someone else in the future.

Being a dog-mom I can really appreciate your act of kindness. Maybe out of appreciation she will 'pay it forward'.

Dog honking horn saying - 'get me outta here' or 'I don't know how to drive'.

Thanks everyone. I hope it didn't sound like I was bragging. It was just a nice experience to have that kind of interaction with a stranger, without worrying about anything happening to either of us.
