This is a real favourite of mine. Pet-peeve, too!!!

Are you the only one in your home who knows how to change-out the toilet paper roll, or (at best), recognizes when the roll is empty?

Yes. If I leave a roll in the vicinity, when the first one is out, the new one will be placed on top of the spindle. It's really no more effort to put new roll ON the spindle, as on top of it. On the very rare occasion it is put ON the spindle, its usually on the "wrong" way. I don't say anything, I just fix it to the "right" way (loose end over the top of the roll as opposed to coming out from under the roll).:~)

Well I live alone so there really is no one to blame when the toilet paper role is empty. Have to admit I left it empty this morning at my sister's house though so hope I get back there before her - she yells :-)! She has a very strange (well maybe not so strange) OCD reaction to the toilet paper roll. It HAS to beplaced so it unrolls over the top rather than underneath (the proper way in my world). She says something about the end of the world happening if the roll is put on wrong. And she's armed for her job - scary :-)!

HA! First thing I thought of. One of the classic sitcom episodes of all time.

This morning was a first...cardboard tube was sitting on the floor...next to the wastebasket. Since it was standing on end, I'm guessing that DH placed it there...for some unknown reason. :o) I didn't ask. But the new roll was on the spindle, so he was basically successful.

We have friends that hang the tp so you pull it from underneath. For 20 years, I have occasionally changed it to the other way. Last time they were here, one of them changed mine to roll the other way! Ahhh, it's finding humor in the little things in life.

Yes, I am the only one in possession of this skill in our house. Apparently DH missed that lesson. I've tried OJT (on the job training) but it never sticks. Unfortunately I'm also the only one who knows how to turn the tv OFF when we leave a room.

As far as how it rolls, I gotta admit it never occurred to me to make it roll one way or the other. I've never actually noticed. We have 4 bathrooms and I'm guessing it's a random roll for each. Dang, now I gotta go look.

Good grief, no! I'd never live with anyone that clueless. My DH puts the toilet seat down, too. Every time.

Ok... that sounds a bit insensitive. I have the expectation that my spouse pays as much attention to domestic chores as I do. We both live in the house, we both take care of it. He has the same expectation.

I have extra rolls of toliet paper sitting next to the toliet on one of those decorative TP holders in both bathrooms. DH, and even the kids and grandkids when visiting, will change the TP roll when empty now, since it is so accessible.

And I like it to roll over the top, not underneath - I can't stand that! :~)

I like over the top. Seems if it goes underneath or behind then it's more likely to unravel.
DH is pretty good at changing the roll if there is a spare under his sink - apparently he nor the 2 kids can find the extra rolls that are on the shelf in the supply closet. Even when I have them put alway the TP on that same shelf when we come home from shopping.

It's not that they can't find the extra TP in the supply closet. It's that they don't want to do the work of leaving the bathroom, walking to the supply closet, picking up a roll of TP, walking back to the bathroom and putting the TP on the spindle. It's a lot less work if the TP is right there in the bathroom.

Or they all get distracted on the way to the supply closet from the bathroom.

I grew up with 5 brothers. At some point, they started putting the new roll of TP on top of the spindle, but they never quite mastered the difficult task of removing the spindle, treading it through the roll of TP and replacing the spindle. Frankly, I was just grateful that they didn't leave the bathroom completely TP-less, which they had been known to do. Mom would just unload a 12 pack of TP into the bathroom vanity on a regular basis.

the toilet seat thing.........i have often wondered (but never dared to speak) as to why the guys get all the flack about not putting the toilet seat back down. I mean, really, is it fair? Just because women would rather not sit on a cold, sometimes nasty, ceramic bare butt toilet is there any reason that we are not as responsible for seat flipping as men? Don't get me wrong, i prefer that the seat is down (especially in the dark nite) and am happy that my guy is considerate, but i really think this is a nongender thing.

oh, well, maybe the TP thing more than compensates. by the way, it is just easier to roll the paper from over the top. for lazy adults, kids, cats...........

The main thing: if you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seatie. (non gender specific)

Having known males who left both up after using the toilet, which I would not tolerate, living with a male partner who puts both down is wonderful. The gender specific part is the leaving both the lid & the seat up.

I think toilets have lids for a reason and I do have to say all my guys are good about closing the seat and lid and I'm good about closing the lid. It just looks better than walking into a restroom and having the toilet bowl exposed.

Oh yes, I'm with everyone as to the paper water-falling off the top! MAJOR pet-peeve the other way!!! Lots of fun reading everybody's entries!

I seem to be the only person in my household that can perform this amazing feat. I also prefer the lid stays in the upright position. I'm not thrilled touching toilet lids and raising them when I have to go (either in my home or others) much prefer to have as little hand contact with the toilet as possible-and yes, I do wash up afterward

I completely agree. And since we have had a dog all but the first 4 months of cohabitating, and we don't let our dog drink out of the toilet, my husband and I are both equally adamant about closing the toilet completely after use. Renders the seat up or down issue moot.

Re: the OT, yes, my DH knows how to replace a roll (and knows where we keep the extra rolls).

The whole putting the toilet paper back on the holder issue is why I did not put in toilet paper holders when we built our new house. The toilet paper sits nicely in a basket on the toilet tank.

We rarely change the TP. We have one of those bookshelf type contraptions that hold two rolls and I ALWAYS get double rolls! Rolls over the top... The seat is always down here too. Simply because of the dog.

When we remodeled we got a toilet paper holder that is just an open rod. All you have to do is slide the roll on it; no fancy squeezing the end of the spindle to do, nothing that requires any manual dexterity at all. It took only ONE reminder to my dear teen SD and my DH has never left the roll empty. He will, however, leave it with a single square attached, as apparently that is all he uses, but DSD and I are both far more likely to use more. In fact, it is a seriously non-frugal aspect of femalehood that she and I share. But everyone is now pretty good about keeping paper where it is needed.

So fun hearing from everybody!!! I gave up on the toilet seat issue a long time ago. With only 3 of us girls in the house as compared to 5 boys, I gave up on patrolling the bathroom for toilet seat correctness. :)

To add, the other MAJOR pet-peeve of mine related to toilet paper rolls, is when someone leaves the roll with only a square or two on it! I mean darn it all anyway, who in the world can get away with using a single square?! Calculated curmudgeonous!
