BIG splurge coming up!

DH & I are getting ready for a big splurge (for us). The circumstances are: my 60th birthday is coming up next month, and there is something I have always wanted to do (other than washing my hair in the rain, in case you read that thread!). I want to go up in a hot air balloon! I went up in a tethered one once and loved it, and since then I have wanted to go on a real ride. So, this will be my 60th birthday present. A splurge yes, but this is a once in a lifetime event for me.

What a wonderful 60th Birthday adventure! I took a balloon ride about 10 years ago in the Colorado Springs area and it was amazing. The view is incredible but the thing that I'll always remember is the "quiet". You are floating (it doesn't feel like you are moving) way up there and it is so quiet and peaceful with only the occasional burst from the blower. Also the basket is pretty big (ours would hold about 6-8 people if I remember correctly) but I still held on just from instinct. It is quite safe they say but is is unlike anything else.

Ahhh... hot air ballooning. The flight of freedom! Has always been a dream of mine, too. Shalom, you are going to have to post a follow-up after your experience. We did this big splurge in Sedona AZ, and it was WORTH EVERY PENNY. It was an incredible experience for me, and I hope it will be for you too. Happy birthday.l

What fun! I've done the tethered ones as well, in fact I realize I just missed the opportunity to go up tethered again this weekend. Harrison AR has a weekend of races the 2nd weekend of September every year. We like going to the Friday night 'Night Glow' and its so pretty. Tethered rides have gone from $3-$5 each and we usually each go up 2-3 times. One of these days I want to really go up!

Am I the ONLY one here that's silently screaming???? I always felt that if I was meant to fly, I'd have feathers. Maybe it's the residual terror from a bad roller coaster ride when I was 5 years old, I don't know...

But, I am happy for you. It's great when you achieve a life long dream!

Update: The hot air balloon ride was today. It was supposed to happen last week but kept being postponed due to windy conditions. Apparently the winds need to be in a narrow realm to be right for flying. So, today was the day (and a perfect day I might add - blue skies, no clouds, very light wind), and as it turned out today was our 42nd wedding anniversary! So, what started out to be a 60th birthday adventure turned into an anniversary adventure. But that's good - a memorable experience, and if I can I will try to post a pic or two later.
