View Full Version : Something I didn't know about 9/11
The boat evacuation of Manhattan after the towers fell was the largest marine evacuation ever, larger even than Dunkirk in WWII. And much of it was spontaneous:

THAT is why I love New York
That was a great story! I loved the footage of the boats streaming in toward the harbor.

That was neat......somehow, the actions of regular New Yorkers in that emergency gives me hope for the future of the human race, because when push comes to shove, people DO pull together. And in these times, with our population so very divided and polarized, it's nice to remember that level of cooperation and assistance to others.
I had no idea, though, that it was THAT large. Really, really interesting....
That was a great story! I hadn't even been aware of that having gone on.
That is one of the most touching videos I have ever watched. Thank you muchly for it, Reader99.
(sniff, sniff)
Wonderful video! I remember seeing shots of the harbor that day, but of course, the focus was on the towers. What surprised me was the astounding number of people they evacuated in those hours.
'There's a little bit of hero in every one of us'. So true.
Thanks for posting the link, reader!
Thanks for that. I just went to Dunkirk today. Very moving. I didn't know about this.
Got a little misty at the end.. "Never go through life saying 'I should have.'" That guy was great--I loved his "New York-ness". Nice video, reader99.
