The forum has been really slow lately, and a lot of familiar posters seem to have dropped off - Miss Minimalist, bae, and others.

Just wondering where everyone's gone...

I wonder too, Gardenarian. Maybe now that fall/winter is closing in upon us, numbers will spike again. (Here's hoping so)!

Miss Minimalist has her own blog now, and I believe she may have been off promoting her book. She also travels a lot, as I recall.

I also wonder what happened to everyone. Where's Kib and Crystal and so many others. Hopefully out having a great simple life! The only person I am in contact with from this board (and the old boards) is SimplyGib (aka Gary) who is out on another of his long distance bicycle tours. Otherwise I don't know where anyone is although I do read laura and Sasha blog as well as Miss Minimalists and several others regularly.

Several mentioned have just been busy in real life with health and/or work issues.....some are still coming to the forums every day, but choosing not to post, others have moved on. Remember, you can always click on "community" at the top of the page, then on "member list" and go to any members profile page, where you can send them a message, email them, or see when they were last on the boards.......

Kib has been absent for awhile with some real life stuff, but I just communicated with her last week, and she'll be returning soon. I believe Ellen has just been knee deep in work issues and caring for an ill relative.......

Life happens to all of us at one time or the other. And sometimes people realize how much time they are spending online, and decide to make changes. My sweetie and I were talking over the weekend about how in the past year or so, our otherwise quiet and peaceful life seems to have "filled up" with a bunch of shoulds and ought to's, and all of a sudden we are feeling time pressures and "not enough time" for things we want to do, and we decided to axe a lot of our activities.

I realized that I am spending WAY too much time online, and being a moderator on these forums has been kind of my "gateway drug", as I would feel that I had to log on several times a day to check my forums, approve new registrations, check for spammers, etc., and once I was here, I'd read and post, and then wander off onto other sites as well, only surfacing after several hours to realize just how much time I'd spent.

So, I've turned in my notice as a moderator, effective the end of October, to give them a chance to add new moderators. I'll still be an active member, but quite likely not to be here on a daily basis, or spend nearly so much time. And once I do that, I'm sure other activities will fill in that time, and may cause even less time here. It's how life works......constant change.

If there is someone you particularly miss hearing from on these forums, feel free to send them a private message or an email and tell them you miss them. I've done that before, several times, and often the person has begun to visit the forums more because of knowing they were missed.

Oh no! What will Alan do without his liberal nemesis? Guess he'll still have peggy ;-)! I'll also be gone for awhile starting tomorrow but will check in when I can. Look forward to "seeing" Kib when she decides to return.

hehehehe....once I saw rosebud arrive (former poster known as Ajaye), I knew that Alan would find that he's met his match, and I could spend less time here, knowing that he's been left in good hands........

Nope......I WILL still be an ordinary member here, but will be relieved to no longer have the "I have to get on the forums" feeling, knowing that I'm being counted on to do moderator duties......and when I really began examining what was taking all the time, it wasn't actually BEING a moderator, it was the feeling that I had to get online several times a day to do that job, then once I was online, wandering off into the weeds while the clock was ticking, and ticking, and ticking.......

Plus....I've always just looked on it as a community service, and I feel like I've done my several years of it, and others can step up and take their turn.

We are doing a really un-simple thing over Christmas, and taking a two week Princess cruise down through the Panama Canal, then spending a week in Miami afterward, and plan some other travels, too, so it's a good time to hang up the moderator hat......I'm turning 70 this birthday, and am starting to have the feeling for the first time that there isn't an infinite amount of time left, so want to make sure that I'm spending my time exactly as I like, wherever possible, and not taking on so many activities that I lose that wonderful "pools of time" feeling we've had over the years, which has kind of disappeared in the last few as we've both added more and more things we are responsible for. It's just time for a BIG lifestyle pruning, to get back to basics again.......
