Yup, here I am sitting at my Mac laptop, with my iPhone nearby, looking up the news of his death on the internet. There aren't a lot of people who leave such a visible imprint on the lives of so many. Some might say, it's "just" technology, but it's so so much more than that. That's like saying the wheel is just a shape.

I worked for him when I was a young'un (in 1984), and was terrified of him. But the experience grew me, and helped make me the resilient person I am. I will miss him.

His death was such a surprise to me, I guess I was hoping during his current leave from Apple he would regain some strength and health. His work and drive in life has been inspirational, as was the commencement speech at Stanford. I watched that speech this morning, it has got me thinking of how I really want my life to be going these days.

I think Steve Jobs led a simple life - not an easy task for a wealthy well known individual. He was a Buddhist and seemed to live his life in alignment with his priorities. RIP

Along with Nobel winners Francis Crick (DNA) and Kary Mullis (PCR), Steve Jobs was enthusiastic about LSD:

"Jobs experimented with psychedelics, calling his LSD experiences 'one of the two or three most important things [he had] done in [his] life'." (Wikipedia)

I remember how quick the government was to criminalize acid back in the day. I guess they didn't want too much mind expansion going on...:idea:

Thanks for sharing, Jane - I love to hear bits and pieces like this. My shrooms experience about 7 years ago was one of the most piercing, amazing experiences of my life. I know Andrew Weil is a fan of the psychedelics as well.

As to Steve Jobs - that commencement speech is awesome - I try to listen to it once or twice a year. A definite repeat. You tube it! Or it may be available on Ted as well.

I felt I grew up with Steve Jobs..we lived in the Bay area and I had one of the earlier Mac SE's...when it finally died, I seriously considered having it bronzed like an old baby shoe. Wished I had..that was a cool little machine, sort of like R2D2. Steve was brilliant and I'll miss him.
