View Full Version : Weird question about old commercial

I was a young child in the late 1960s, and I remember a commercial that I can't find any info about online, nor does anyone else remember it. It was really scary.

There was a disembodied head in a box, being carried by a man into a room, possibly a jail cell, and being left there. The commercial ended with the man's head saying, "Is anyone there? Are you coming back?" stuff like that.

Anyone, please? (Perhaps it was some sort of nightmare I had?)

Thanks!

I don't remember a commercial like that but I watched black and white 'Twilight Zone' episodes back then and it sounds like it could have come from that series.

It doesn't ring a bell. Could you possibly be recollecting a segment of a horror movie back in the day?

"Outer Limits" was a pretty weird show too around that time. Sounds like a scary show!
This probably isn't it, but I remember a Star Trek show where a man somehow lost his body and they were able to save his head and built a computer-like box body for him, with his head on top. Just thought I'd mention that one, in case that helps.

All good answers, and all good possibilities. I'm kind of a Trekkie so I know it's not that (that would be Capt. Christopher Pike, who was captain of the Enterprise before Kirk).

I don't think it was a movie or TV show because I saw it more than once.

Back to the old drawing board! Thank you though.

Yes, it was Christopher Pike! What a good memory you have!

I had totally forgot about Senor Wences! I even say "Saright? Saright!" I couldn't remember where I'd gotten that. haha
Sounds like a good possibility for ladyinblack.

Well, I don't think it was Senor Wences. It wasn't even remotely amusing. And I saw it several times so I'm pretty sure it was a commercial.

I think I know what it was, via Google. I think McDonald & Associates made a PSA for the President's Council on Fitness.

It featured an automaton-like figure carrying the head. The message was supposed to be that we'd all end up like heads in boxes if we didn't get into good shape.

Someone else is searching too:

My Dd use to watch I think it was the Munsters and I think I remeber a head in a box on that show....
Mother, father, Fil, two weird kids and one normal older girl and an uncle/butler,,,,if I am remember the name right?

edited to add on second thought that would have been in the seventies...

I think you're remembering two different shows, The Addams Family with Gomez, Morticia, Pugsly, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Grand Mama and Lurch the butler, and The Munsters with Herman, Lily, Grandpa, Eddie & Marilyn, along with Spot the pet dragon under the stairs.

Well, from time to time it comes to mind. It really scared me when I was a child, though. I guess I've always wondered what the heck it was.

Ads have been on my mind because I just saw Morgan Spurlock's "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold." My DH and I started talking about our all-time favorite commercials. I looked some of them up on YouTube. Strangely, I am about the only person I know who never saw Steve Jobs' "1984" commercial.

Something about it sounds vaguely familiar to me, but nothing that would really help you. I know the feeling, trying to recall something in the back of your mind you know is there but just can't get all of it! Hope you get an answer soon.
