View Full Version : Pants (slacks) or jeans? (Men's topic).
So how about it men, what's your preference? Are you uber causal and go with jeans (carefree), or do you like being more trendy/dressy/uppity and choose slacks/cotton casuals?
My husband is a dress slacks/cotton casuals guy. He hates running shoes with a passion, so wearing cotton casuals allows him to wear dressy type shoes. Plus, he loves collared shirts. (I do too, looks so smart and respectable).

Usually jeans and a collarless shirt (or sweatshirt).
( Doing my thing indoors around home: sweatpants or flannel "sleepwear" bottoms.)
( Bib overalls for serious yard work, firewood, etc.)
Cotton casuals and button-down collar for social occasions.
Wool slacks with blazer when the occasion calls for a jacket and tie.
Shorts when it's hot.

I will speak for my husband. He is a jeans man. Jeans, jeans and more jeans. He wears uniform pants to work and I can get him into Dockers for church and dress pants on occasion at which time he whines. Into a suit? He will do it but he is a major whiny butt about it. May through September it is jeans shorts. No doubt about his preference, jeans.
During the work week I'm a dress slacks and shoes with long sleeve, collared shirt kinda guy. What we used to call business casual.
Evenings and weekends I revert to jeans and pullover shirts in the fall & winter and cargo shorts & tee's in the spring/summer with gym shoes, sandals or hiking boots as activity dependant footwear.
I have about 20 suits and maybe 70 to 80 ties left over from my corporate days, although in the past 5 years I've only worn one once, to a funeral. It's probably time to get rid of them all, keeping one black one for rare occasions.
I wear older jeans and button up work shirts as everyday wear and newer jeans and sport shirts for dress up occations. I have a sports coat and dress slacks for uber dress up. Shorts and t-shirts in hot weather. Oddly, I've always thought sandals look a little funny on men and generally wear light fabric hiking style shoes except for dress up occations.

I've seen some pretty good craft sites lately with ideas for ties - when you are snowed in this winter Alan you can whip out your sewing machine and have some fun. You probably have enough for a quilt at least.
Jeans, T-shirts (polo pony makes them more sophisticated - right?!), running shoes. Though my best running shoes are for running only. Dress up - summer casual - jeans, hawaiian shirt (Tommy Bahama, as for name dropping). Church - slacks, white shirt and tie. I have a very minimalist closet - by design* - I think I own 10 button down shirts - total. About 10 t-shirts.
I was looking at my clothes the other day and decided I need to rotate in some fresh looks - from head to toe. I don't mind the minimalist concept, but that doesn't mean I can't bring new stuff in. Now that I am becoming "thinner" I will have to get some new items...hmm maybe TMI?
* which my wife loves as there is more room for her un-minimalist clothes collection!
Dado. In our house, sweats and pull-over tops rule! One simply cannot enter the comfort/relaxed zone without.
Goldensmom. Isn't it funny how we all tend to have a natural setting that curtails our individual preference for something or another. On the occasion DH wears jeans (very rarely), he always wears a nice shirt with them (collared), and dressy/casual shoes. I like the mixture of relaxed/casual/hip!
Alan. It took me FOREVER to get DH on-board with sandals. He wouldn't even try a pair on, but a couple of years ago he finally bit, and now that's all he'll wear when the warmer weather hits. His lace-up collection accumulates dust from spring till fall.
Rogar. Re: sandals, my husband used to think the same. Gosh, you and him would have made for a great team! Now, his sandals are IT! In his words, "once you start wearing them you'll never look back".
Float On. How neat-o it would be to stitch-up a quilt or blanket out of old ties! What a nifty pattern/design that would make.
Greg44. One thing my husband will not wear is those loose-weave, knitted collared shirts. Shirts have to be the pressed type/style, where the collars stay straight, neat, and not floppy. Minimalism in the way of dress isn't such a bad thing. If done correctly it can make for an interesting and defined collection that speaks of success and confidence.
