As a sort of piggyback to my thread topic- Pants (slacks), jeans, or dresses? (Woman's topic), do you have a favourite colour/colour combination (clothing related) you favour over all else when dressing up? For instance, black dress slacks? (My personal fave)!

P.S. Ladies and Gentlemen welcome! :)

I usually wear slacks in black, navy or gray. I like brighter colors nearer my face, so just about anything goes there. By keeping my slacks in related color families, just about everything goes with everything else. Not that I have a lot of clothes, but that makes it even more important that everything works together.

My bottoms are usually black, gray or some variation (glen plaid, for example). I like red, white, burgundy, gray or cobalt blue for the tops. Most everything goes with everything else.

Khaki or black pants. Sometimes jeans. Tops are black, navy, and cobalt. I recently bought pink and lilac shirts.

Blue jeans (hip huggers...lets my overhang...welll...hang!) and a white blouse are my absolute faves during good weather. Black and blue jeans (not together!) and multiple layered sweaters during cold weather.

Navy, with touches of bright colour, such as cerise or fuchsia pink!

Yes! I tend to go with black kind-of-dressy pants if I'm not just lounging at home. And if I'm lounging at home, I wear black yoga pants. Sometimes if I go on a week-long business trip, I pack all kinds of stuff, but wind up only wearing the black pants! (I usually pack two pairs)

I've also started homing on just tan or cream tops--I kind of want to be black and tan like a pint of Guinness! Three quarters of my closet is all black and tan (or cream).

But I do also love red, so I'll pull that in occasionally, and my other favorite color to wear is a periwinkle blue.

That pretty much sums up my wardrobe. I figure if I need more color, I can wear a necklace or scarf.

A lot of my favorite clothes are either orange or turquoise. All of my jeans are blue, brown or tan.

Love hearing from you all! I'm such a studious SL'r, that I just love associating and hearing about what we all do and like. So silly I know, but that's just me.

i gravitate towards bright colors -- purple, cobalt blue, green, hot pink, turquoise, and coral are faves. gray is my favorite neutral, and i recently got some lovely brown boots that i just love with my gray tights and dresses.

i used to wear much more black, and be more timid about mixing colors, but now i just kind of go with whatever i like. last week i wore a green and gray plaid dress with a raspberry colored long drapey cardigan, fuzzy gray tights, and brown boots and it's kind of my new favorite outfit.

Black bottoms, always! Tops are mostly some shade of pink, purple, blue-ish. People tell me I look better in "strong" colors - hot pink, bright/dark purple, cobalt blue, or a bright plummy color.

With black bottoms, hose/socks, and shoes, it makes getting dressed in the morning very easy! All tops go with all bottoms! :)

I had to look at my closet for this question. Dress slacks are basic black, gray and navy. Casual slacks are khaki and olive. Then of course jeans. Tops are mostly red - solids, stripes, plaids. My favorite combination colors are red and khaki or cream and black. I wear a lot of small flowered or patterned skirts with solid tops. I usually wear a red or yellow coat because I am short compared to my 6'5" husband and if we get separated, he can easily pick me out in a crowd if I'm in red or yellow.* I've found that my tastes as I 'mature'. I never liked pink or purple and now I do. Speaking of tastes changing, I never liked the flavor maple or coconut until I was in my 40's.

*Funny aside, yesterday we were separated at the grocery store and I saw my husband searching for me at his eye height, I thought, 'hey, I'm down here'.

Tradd made me think of this with her 'looks better in' comment. Back in the 80's it was popular to 'get your colors done'. A bunch of us got our colors done, I was a 'fall' and got a color swatch booklet to carry around. I never used it.

I wear mostly neutral colors like black, white and tan with color coming usually from red and "earthy" greens (rather than bright greens like a Kelly). I'm a pretty minimalist dresser.

Madgeylou. I wish I had a more bold side to me Re: bright colours. Every so often I'll see someone wearing something bright and think, "gosh that looks good", then I'll do the old ask myself routine if I'd wear the same, and my answer is always "no". I envy those like you who have the courage.

Tradd. Tradition is so hard to beat isn't it. i.e. Black slacks. I've been a black slacks kind of gal (forever)! In high school I owned a really nice pale pink Angora sweater and even though it used to ever so lightly shed all over my black pants, I never gave up on wearing it.

Goldensmom. Khaki and olive for summer for me too. I used to own a pair of aubergine coloured dress slacks and loved them! But thinking back on it now it wasn't the colour of the pants I liked so much as it was how they fit me. Re: how we change (fashion likes/flavours), I was never crazy about coconut growing up but go googly over it now! Yes, I remember getting colours done!!! Gosh, it's been so long I can't remember the outcome, but I also think I was fall.

Jania. Slowly, I've started getting into more white. I love the freshness of white. I classify myself as being a minimalist dresser too. Additionally, earthy tones/colours have always been my strength. I LOVE olive everything!

I like to wear colorful tops - the weather here requires layers year round, so I might wear a dark pink tank top under a multi-colored tee shirt and top with a deep purple jacket. I have pants/leggings in all sorts of colors - gray is a favorite of mine.

I'm don't have a lot of clothes (I don't have the space) but I do have a lot of tee shirts that are fun to wear.

haha, maybe it's courage, maybe it's just not giving a crap! :)

i posted this feature on 3 different looks using 1 dress (http://www.weartheshift.com/blog/2011/10/31/one-shift-three-looks-hiya-houndstooth/) on my blog today -- these are pretty typical outfits for me. i don't think they are too insane but i guess it depends what you compare them to. :)

My current fav color is a russet rust...very Autumn-y and it goes well with my chestnut hair and olive complexion. I always get compliments when wearing that color...and it combines well with black, my other favorite color...

Black, gray and bluejeans for bottoms. Tops: mostly purple, pink and gray. Some turquoise tops have joined the closet set this winter. I'll have to try out new looks with them!

I never wear white. I can't keep it clean. On me, it is just a magnet for any dirt, food, or whatever is nearby.

Gardenarian. I'm slowly being inspired by all of you colour bugs! :) So glad winter is here, because I'm going to think everything colour over with season and maybe, just maybe, by spring, I'll be ready to delve into something more bold and daring.

Madgeylou. What awesome pictures of you! You're as cute as a button! So classy! I love the way the dress you're wearing looks so different and blends with all three options seamlessly!!! That's what I call getting the most out of ones separates.

HappyHiker. Your complexion and hair colour is nearly identical to mine. Way back when, when I used to wear browns (all shades), I got compliments all the time, but now that I'm older I'm not a brown lover at all.

Mrs. Hermit. Well, that does it, you guys have really inspired me to colour it up some come next year! Thank you for the colour ideas!

Domestic Goddess. Don't feel bad! :) I'm like a kid when it comes to white. Seems no matter how hard I try to stay clean, the more I get dirty! Always has a way of making me so jealous, because occasionally I'll see a woman all dressed up in white and everything is spotlessly clean, yet I can park myself on a perfectly clean seat/chair and when I get home I can find soiling. Go figure...

Black pants or blue jeans in winter. Add khaki crops in summer.

Tops mostly black, white or gray. I have silver hair and black and white glasses and it all seems to fit.

When I wear colorful tops it is most often lime green. A little brown which surprising to me I get compliments on.

Hi Rose. I've been wanting to get into pastels and lighter, more colourful shades for a while, and this thread is exactly what the doctor ordered to help direct me towards a new vision/plan. One that sees me dressing more daringly next year!

Pink...Pink... and Pink.... Really loved Madgielou's pink jacket and would wear something like that (and the model is adorable too :-)!). I generally wear blacks, grays (my "favorite" nuetral color) and browns but mostly wear jeans if long pants, but like to wear pink tops, jackets, etc... I also like to mix sort of masculine clothes with more feminine clothes. Like right now I am wear olive drab camoflouge cargo shorts with a hot pink tank top with some glittery stuff on it.

Spartana. It's interesting how each of us has our own colour palette that's more or less best suited for us/to us, yet I envy those who are able to pull-off any colour! Like bright pinks and things.

I very seldom dress up, but I do have to have red somewhere in the mix. That is the color I look best in and it is also my favorite color.

Well I don't know if I actually "pull it off" so much as don't care what it looks like to other people - as long as I like it. Of course that means I'll probably end up on one of those "People of Walmart" web sites some day :-)!

:) camo + sparkly pink tank top sounds awesome to me! and thanks for the kind words :) i have a blast playing around with different stuff and it's been fun to see how things have changed over the years. i used to wear some SERIOUSLY out there stuff. like a crazy paisley housecoat with combat boots, a camo jacket, and a frilly pink hat. i can't really do that anymore -- guess it's more that i don't want to -- but i do still like to be colorful and fun even if i am pushing 40. :)

you know, back in the day i did have a super cool pair of pink camo pants (http://www.armysurplusworld.com/custom/photos/pinkcamopants.jpg) -- spartana you should get a pair!

I do have some camo pink pants - complete with all sorts of pockets for the cool "I'm a chick in the military" look!! Love 'em. You sound like my younger sister. She's been known to wear some crazy things in her time - even gone out on dates wearing a one piece pj's complete with attached footies! Guys seem to love it though. I'm not THAT brave. I'm at that point in life where it's less about color and style and more about comfort. And combat boots ARE comfortable :-)!

Of course pink doesn't ALWAYs look good on everyone :-) http://www.simplelivingforum.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=551&d=1320444400 http://www.simplelivingforum.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=552&d=1320444912 http://www.simplelivingforum.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=553&d=1320445013

haha that's awesome that you have them already! and your sister sounds hilarious! i have been known to wear some wild stuff -- not footie pajamas on a date -- but more than once someone has pulled their car over to ask me what the crap i'm wearing. my favorite was a bright yellow maxi dress with pea****s and roses all over it. i used to wear it with red reeboks. good times!!

i'm with you on the comfort thing -- i got plantar fasciitis a few years ago wearing crappy shoes so i'm especially careful to wear good ones/arch supports now. i don't have any combat boots right now but i used to love them!

I should probably remove them as it is insensitive of me. But i was laughing more at the choice of clothes rather than the person wearing them. But then i've been known to wear crazy stuff occasionally too so guess I'll end up on the "Walmart" site myself one of these days and people will laugh at what I'm wearing :-)! I actually dress pretty subdued and sort of balance the colors I wear (no hot pink with red reeboks madgylou!) - dakrs and colors. I love dark dreary oversized things too and would fit right in with the whole Seattle Grundge scene.

Haha, 'People of Walmart' can be pretty hilarious... I'm probably going to hell for joining in at poking fun at people though...

For tops/shirts/coats etc I love muted greens, reds, purples and blues. Cannot stand black!
For formal trousers and things that I want to match with lots of clothes (eg. cardigans), I go for grey.
Jeans always mid or dark blue.

I like contrastic colours, like purple with green or bright blue with red.

I'm not too adventurous:)

I decided to delete the pics as it's a bit too insensitive - funny but insensitive. We finally had some cold days here in SoCal so now I can wear my giant oversized baggy stuff. Looking a bit like Mary Kate & Ashley olsen - or maybe just a bag lady :-)!

Mira and Spartana. I'm like you guys, and avoid poking fun at, or making light of anyone, but sometimes I think people are deserving of such attention. If I were all lumpy and bumpy, 100 lbs overweight (or more), with mammoth sized thighs and a butt that had more craters and holes and puckers than the surface of the moon, I'd take time to dress accordingly and find things that helped hide my imperfections and nasties. But when these kinds of people go for daring instead, it is going to draw much attention.

Giant, oversized, baggy/loose fitting things throughout the winter months, the best! So comfy...
