I need an orthpedic pillow to take pressure off my painful shoulders.

The only one I know of is at Tempurpedic and it's foam. Is all foam still made with formaldehyde? I don't know, but if it is, I prefer a nonfoam one. Anyone know about any of this?

Aren't there pillows filled with some kind of rice that stay in shape? I think they'd be a bit noisy to sleep on but may stay supportive.

I use solid latex pillows. Much prefer over the tempurpedic (sp?) I tried first. I find them at J.C. Penney's. Also sometimes at Linens and Things. I used to wake up with a sore neck and this pillow solved my problem. I used to love feather pillows but they give me too many kinks now. The tempurpedic pillow flattened pretty quickly. I paid almost $100 (this was a long time ago) and I was not happy. My latex pillows are about $50 or $60.

If you are a back sleeper you might want to try sleeping to no pillow at all. It sounds strange, but allowing your neck and spine to relax into a neutral/natural position (like an S) can take a lot of pressure off your shoulders.
Buckwheat pillows are malleable, yet still firm and they might work.

I LOVE my Sleep Doctor pillow---also purchased at JCP.
