Check this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEgSlRarcC8) out! I've seen this on a very small scale many times, but this is nothing short of breathtaking.

Soooo amazing. I've been seeing a little of this recently, as the birds get ready to migrate. Its unbelievable that they all don't run into each other.
Just another one of those incredibly beautiful nature things!!

So timely Mrs M. This morning on my walk I became entranced by a few bird, about 5, sailing overhead. They kept swirling and looping, increasing in number to only about 15 but it was lovely to watch. Thanks for a delightful video to view. Nature is amazing!

Nice.
I always wonder how those birds do that without a few collisions.

And I learned just recently, starlings are not native here. They are a mistaken introduction. Introduced to control some pest I think, but don't quote me on that. They are really cool to watch!

Peggy, starlings are an introduced species to the US. However, judging by the accents of the young women in the video, it was taken in or near the UK.

CathyA. I was watching a nature special a while back and it explained why birds can fly so close together without crashing together, but you think I can remember now.

Jania. I've witnessed the same. I can't remember for the life of me whether it's late spring or late summer, but an invasion of black birds (Starlings, I think) visit, and there are literally hundreds of them. They fly a similar type formation around our neighbourhood, over and over again, then land periodically. But their movement resembles that of waves. Amazing to watch.

Libby. You are most welcome.

Float On. It really is amazing isn't it.

Peggy. According to my husband, Starlings are nasty birds, robbing nests, etc.

Anne Lee. You guessed right, the video was filmed in the UK.

Wildflower. Imagine the sound of all those wings cutting through the air. Wish I could have been there to witness the event. It's almost surreal.
