View Full Version : 2011 Christmas/holiday music thread
I saw this elsewhere and thought it would be neat to see what everyone likes.
Post a You Tube (or other video) of the song you like - that way we can hear, rather than just a listing of songs, as I remember was done on the old boards.
Mine is "Lo, How a Rose Ev'r Blooming" ("Es ist ein Ros entsprungen"), I have The Ultimate Classical Christmas CD with this version on it.

I've got a few Kate Rusby CDs which contain traditional carols, often to quite different tunes than the ones popular nowadays. I love folk music and love Rusby's voice. There are lots of her songs on Youtube. Here's just one

In similar vein, I have listened to 'A Tapestry of Carols' by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band for about 25 years. Another great English folk singer, whose distinctive voice echoes down the years to times of Yule and pre-reformation Christmas songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxgasOnXhYM
Can't post one, got to post two! :)
This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yfoswn3-Mo) one and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elAtcHU0iCU&feature=fvst) one.
Boston Pops Orchestra (Sleigh Ride), John Williams (Carol of The Bells).

This is a beautiful version of my favorite Christmas song:

I was in Rite Aid today and it came in and I felt very happy, but then looked around at the amount of stuff surrounding me and felt a little sad and the song really seemed out of place.
We went to a Madrigal dinner last night. I don't know the names of the songs sung so cannot post, but they were lovely acappella ones from 16th century and onwards.
Mrs. M, Sleigh Ride is up near the top for me! I used to play trumpet in our high school band and got to do the horse whinny at the end during one of the Christmas concerts. More fun than a bowlful of jello.
One of my favorite cds is the Herb Alpert Christmas Album. This one will get you toe to tapping...Winter Wonderland.

Adeste fidelis / Oh come all ye faithful is my favorite of the religious songs.
Yesterday on a long car ride we listened to a sampler of all the Xmas pop songs and hat lots of fun singing along.

Thank you all. I really needed this thread, to start getting back on track. I have fallen off the "happy wagon" lately, so I need to get back on.

Mrs-M, Sleigh Ride is a huge favorite of mine, too! "A Christmas Festival" by Arthur Fielder and the Boston Pops (recorded late 50s/early 60s) is my favorite Christmas CD!

I posted these two in last year's thread (thanks for resurrecting, BTW), and they're still favorites. Hope you all enjoy.
