As you might have read in my other post, DD has bedbugs. She has a simple little Dirt Devil stick vac, but she needs something with a hose attachment so she can vacuum every part of her room.........walls, light switches, etc.. Her house mates have a vacuum that is bagless, and I think if you're trying to collect bedbugs and eggs, you need a bag that you can take out and put into a plastic bag, don't you think? Otherwise, you're going to contaminate the bagless vac with eggs and bedbugs.

So........anyone have suggestions for a decent, fairly low-priced, reliable vacuum with a hose attachment, that comes with a bag? I guess we could pay around $200. (or less, if such a thing is out there).
thanks!!

I love my new Miele Olympus! It's a little more expensive (299 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Miele-Olympus-S2120-Canister-Cleaner/dp/B002TW208M).

I'd never bought anything more expensive than a Walmart Hoover for $60, so this was a real extravagence, even though it's Miele's entry level vac. But it's sturdy, great suction, it's just quality all the way. And the bags are unbelievable! So thick and well-constructed.

I did look at a similar style Kenmore and almost bought it, but I read the reviews for both the Kenmore and the Miele and I just decided to go with the better quality.

You could definitely suck up a few bedbugs with this vacuum.

I have owned a Riccar vacuum for a few years and am thrilled with it. I bought it from an independent store that also carried Mieles but the owner said for the money you couldn't go wrong with a Riccar. Then I found that my neighbor owned 2 Riccars - one for each level of her house and had been happy with them for many, many years.

I also bought a Riccar sewing machine from the same business and have been equally happy.

Riccars are American made which is not a deal breaker for me but I felt like it mattered also.

Thrift store? Or maybe a vac repair shop, sometimes they sell ones that were brought for repair and not claimed. If I were vacuuming bed bugs I might be inclined to throw out the vac afterwards.

CathyA - I have had a family member and also a friend have a bed bug invasion this year, and eradication is really a job for professionals. They are amazingly hard to get rid of, and also amazingly fertile.
And if your DD is in an apt, she must contact the landlord to let them know or else it could be a breach of her lease.

If it were me, I'd be contacting pest control professionals with expertise in bed bugs immediately. If more days go by and the infestation gets worse, the price will go up dramatically.

I have the Eureka Sanitaire (http://www.amazon.com/SC3683A-Commercial-Canister-Vacuum-Cleaner/dp/B0006HUYTE) commercial canister vac. It's around $100 on Amazon. It doesn't have a beater, but the suction is incredible for such a small vacuum cleaner. We have a 5'x8' area rug and if I don't open the suction control, it will pick the rug up off the floor!

I do second the recommendation that your daughter needs to contact an exterminator, though. I don't think bedbugs are easy to eradicate.
