View Full Version : How Long Do You Leave Your Holiday Decorations Out?

Taking down the Christmas tree, front porch wreath and lights on New Year's day. Leaving my indoor winter decor up for a couple more months as it seems appropriate and cheery for the dreary cold weather days. I always have some indoor decor out that blends nicely with the 4 different seasons - most of it natural, so that is normal for me. Curious as to what others do?

It really does bug me though to see outdoor holiday decorations left up weeks after the event.... Tacky, comes to mind. >8)

I'm thinking of those that still have Halloween decor out during the month of December, and those that leave Christmas decor out until July.... :)

I leave our tree up through Lunar New Year. Helps take the edge off the cold and dreary winter days. We live in a 30th floor apartment, so no outdoor decorations. But I kind of like the fact that people stuck in traffic on Beijing's fourth ring road can look up and see our tree sparkling from our floor-to-ceiling windows.

Yes, that would be nice to see while stuck in traffic! :)

tree will come down just after new year. I think my dh is in love with all his indoor lights, so I think they will stay up a while longer.

kally, my SIL leaves up a strand of indoor white lights on her stair bannister year round. It looks very nice, lights up a dark area subtly so good for safety reasons, and is so pretty. I can understand why your DH isn't ready to part with his indoor lights - I love them too.

Decorations, cards, and tree, around the first week in January (give or take a few days/week). Never fails to pull at my heartstrings though. As much as I love to see the holiday season come to an end, taking everything down and boxing it up for another season always has a way of depressing me a little.

I do enjoy the warmness and spirit that Christmas brings. So much joy, peace, and love.

We decorate a week before Christmas and 'de'-decorate Jan. 2nd. Snow related decorations/wall-hangings stay up until the snow it gone. It takes a few days to get used to the emptiness, the lack of the warmth of the colors and lights and to refocus.

Usually done before New Years Day for inside decorations and right after for outdoor lights and decorations.

The tree goes up a week before Christmas and comes down on Epiphany. Bits and pieces of Christmas decor appear throughout December, but all get put away by Jan. 6.

They went up in early December. They'll come down when I fell motivated enough.

When the kids were young, we took the tree down on New Year's day, along with the other decorations. That was fun for us, almost as fun as putting the tree up, as we talked about all the special ones. Now, when it's just the two of us, we take it down in stages, it seems. Right now the "other" decorations are packed, but the tree is still in full glory. Maybe we'll get to it this afternoon.
