View Full Version : What are you wearing RIGHT NOW?

Hopefully this isn't too weird of a thread. :D

What are you wearing right now? What are your thoughts on it? How old is it? In what kind of condition? When did you get it? How much did it cost? Etc.

My day-off uniform is t-shirt and yoga pants.

Right now I am wearing a college sweatshirt from my alma mater that was a gift and is 10 years old. It is falling apart at the cuffs and has some barely-noticeable stains. If I can get the stains out (I just noticed them not five minutes ago) I will repair the cuffs. If not, I will leave all alone.

Yoga pants are six months old, a rare Target purchase, and in fine shape, though I have to hang dry them to avoid shrinkage.

T-shirt is a plain one from Herbergers. It's about a year and a half old. Doesn't hold its shape very well. I'm about done with Herbergers.

Bra (sorry boys) is a Nordstrom buy for $60. I had to repair a poking-out wire last week, but that will give it some extra mileage. Still in great shape otherwise.

Socks: Smartwool brand. Love them. In great shape with a little wear on the soles. Can't remember how long ago, but they were a Christmas gift.

No jewelry on right now. Usually just my wedding ring, a vintage ring that we bought from an antique dealer. But since we are going to work on the house later, I'm not bothering. Not too into jewelry lately, really.

How about you?

One of my favorite fleece shirts from LL Bean, pink, at least five years old. Levis boot-cut jeans, probably about 4 y.o. Black shearling-lined Merrell clogs, several years old. Pink "Apostrophe" brand bra from Sears, about $15.00, only a few months old and looking ratty to my eyes (one of those synthetics that pills almost instantly, cheap, comfy, but not a good value). Pink cotton Jockey hipsters, the only brand/style I'll wear, and pink wool kneesocks (brand unknown). Wedding band and a pair of pink & silver earrings my sister made for me. I'm a little bit OCD about stuff matching :)

Nightshirt from ll bean--bought about 10 years ago, don't remember the cost but it's my only one and has held up perfectly. Although I must say I wear DH's nightshirts some nights. Sandles from The Running Hub that are good for the feet $30 last summer. A knit cap on my head I got for free a couple months ago when I lost my old one at the dog park. Wedding ring--$90 in Paris 20 years ago.

Silver chainmail bracelet (made by a potter friend)
Silver and gold wire wrap bracelet (also made by a friend)
Silver chainmail earrings (ummm...also by a friend)
Silver necklace with one of my glass pieces (use to be a black/white bowl that I broke and re-fused in my little kiln)
Black/silver glasses (can't see with or without them) currently sitting on top of my head.
Black wilson leather purse (thrift shop $3)

Grey cargo pants--thrift find about three years ago
Grey Land's End tank top--from overstock section, I think $5
Black and grey striped button-down shirt--thrift store, $2.50
Black knit "jean jacket" type jacket--thrift store, $3.50
Thin black cotton socks--from JC Penny, five years ago
Grey suede Vans--bought new three years ago. These are my house shoes, so they don't get a lot of wear
Land's End underwear--bought on clearance for $2.50 a pair five years ago(Land's End doesn't make women's undies any more. I have no idea what I'm going to do when these start falling apart)
Glamorise bra--$45 new. But it supports what needs to be supported and it doesn't have scratchy lace and it doesn't pinch anywhere.
Glasses--$450, three years ago. I really need to get new ones.

FloatOn, you are really into jewelry :)

Not really. It's just my husband makes a lot of 'trades' with other artists. And I end up wearing a lot of those trades. Even though I probably have 10 wirewrap bracelets - the 2 I have on today I pretty much wear every day. Same with earrings. I wear these daily even though I've got maybe 12 pair of earrings. I like wearing my pendants because a lot of times I sell them right off my neck!

I'm with you, Kelli. Black yoga pants are my "uniform" during the day. I just ordered two more pair from Old Navy--theirs are terrific because they don't look like pj's--you can wear them outside and it's hard to tell they're not slacks.

So, I'm wearing yoga pants, red cowlneck sweater, black socks and my ballerina flats (another part of my "uniform"). Also watch, earrings my son gave me for Christmas, wedding ring and my grandmother's ring--I never take either ring off.

Black Smartwool socks, purchased at REI a couple of years ago. I am a little disappointed that they are wearing thin already -- they weren't cheap!

Black Columbia Omnitherm fleece pants. Got these at the thrift store about 5 years ago and LIVE in them at home in the winter (yoga pants are my typical spring-fall lounge around the house choice). They were probably around $7-8, would have been $40-50 new. I love them so much I will probably splurge on a new pair retail if I can't find them used once these finally wear out. But they don't seem to be wearing thin anywhere yet, so probably have several years of wear left.

Bra and underwear both from hanes outlet. Bra is "Passion for Comfort" minimizer underwire -- found this style a few years back and was happy with the fit, so I stock up when they go on sale (often buy two get one free or $18-20/piece). I still have a bunch of old ratty underwear I am wearing down to unusable state, but for new will only buy the "comfortsoft" kind that has the cloth waistband -- seems to be better quality and also more comfortable than other options.

Grey T-shirt is a "Perfect T" from Hanes. I bought a couple a few years back and love them -- they really do fit me perfectly, not too tight, not too loose, not too short, not too long. Sadly they seem to have stopped making them, at least under that name.

Grey Sweatshirt is Great Outdoors, I think purchased at a thrift store many, many years ago -- or maybe an outlet store purchase.

No jewelry, not even wedding ring. My wedding ring got too small several years ago and I stopped wearing it. Not a jewelry kind of person.

Ancient Lee jeans, so soft that they feel buttery and unfortunately are developing holes. DH has suggested that perhaps I consider new jeans. They must be pretty bad for him to notice. Gray long sleeved t-shirt (hanes, new in October), LL Bean fleece zip top which is going back because of pilling (it was new this fall and they are very serious about their guarantee). Warm cuddly new smartwools because the old ones were at least eight years and very thin and my ten year old Birkenstocks, resoled once. Hmm, not a very frugal listing compared to some of you but certainly not fancy. I could probably do a little better but I am at home today. And no jewelry. I did wear my running watch when I went to the gym this morning and I usually do have earrings on but not now.

Fun thread, fidgie.

Mrs M I'm wearing some very broken in skinny jeans that have been worn for 5 or so years for house painting and are called my junk jeans, you know for cleaning around the house. Also have on a sport tank with built in bra and fleece ans pull on nikes. All bought at thrift store or consignment on sale. Happy and comfy. Will throw on yoga pants and fresh fleece for yoga this evening.

Mind you - I like to keep my heat LOW! It's 20F out right now in Northern IL. Right under my carpet and under padding is the concrete slab foundation (I finally moved back in Friday after being out three weeks due to the repairs on the sinking foundation).

8 year old reddish-orange long sleeve Eddie Bauer t-shirt - starting to fray a bit at the edges - $20 originally, maybe
3-4 year old dark teal Land's End fleece turtleneck tunic - $15 on sale
10 year old Cuddle Duds long johns - unknown, they are so old. Kind of raggy and stretched out, but still work well at home.
2 month old black yoga pants from Target - $20
4-5 year old cotton ragg socks from Kohl's or JcPenney - probably $4

Gold chain with gold Cross pendant and gold Virgin Mary medal that is rarely taken off

T-shirts appropriate for the season (with an appropriate layer on top if needed) and yoga pants (cropped yoga pants in the summer) are what I wear at home all the time. Comfy, easy to find, and relatively cheap. My t-shirts get cycled to at home wear only when they're not fit to been seen in public in anymore.

Hey Mrs. M., I changed to sweatpants shortly after my post. I was wearing jeans because I just came home from town and had my 'town' clothes on. Just took off my Carhartt coat and Wellies as I was out feeding the chickens. Boy the wind sure is blowing hard and it's cooooold out there.

Just put some sort of long johns or tights under those somewhat holey jeans and they'll still be "decent" for at home wear. :-)

Oh, forgot to add - no bra here! (Sorry, guys!). I have to wear $60 Wacoal minimizer underwires and while they're the most comfortable I've found (that still hold the girls up), they get taken off as soon as I get home. I only wear a bra at home if someone is going to be coming over, which isn't often!

OH bae, what a picture I have of you, lol! Here and - for a day at home - I have on faded navy knit pull on slacks w/ no hem, handed down from a friend's SIL. They were too long so I finally just cut them off. Blue and yellow striped socks handed up from DD when she cleaned out her sock drawer. Red T with flag, passed along from DSIL when DB wouldn't wear it. (The brand is "faded glory" - wallyworld, I think..but anyway it made him sad) Old blue man's cardigan from a yard sale. Cheap leather slippers from half-price day at the thrift, now w/ one side sole replaced with old denim. Glasses on the top of my head - don't need them to read but don't want to lose them for the thirty-seventh time this year. Which is only two days old. :~) My only jewelery, most of the time, would be my marriage bands.

What a great thread!

I'm in my usual "evening wear" that I change into as soon as I get home from work: sweatpants and sweatshirt (have 2 sets that came from Goodwill, a third set that I paid $8.00 for at WalMart) with a tee underneath (old and freebie tees abound in my closet); basic undies (Hanes makes a "beefy" cotton pair that I really like and they last); basic cotton socks, old but purchased retail; slippers (ditto); and the one ring on each hand that always stay on. Pretty it ain't, comfy it is.

I'm not in the house 10 minutes on any given evening before OFF go the earrings, and OFF come the shoes, and best of all OFF comes the bra! I dislike (or thoroughly detest, in the case of the bra) all three of these clothing/decorative items, yet still feel a need to wear them all for going out in public. :)

Well, could get by without the bra or the earrings, but my workplace would frown on my idea that feet should be shorn ONLY in flip-flops (summer) or slippers (winter).

I always start the day with the dog and a jog so I'm in my uniform. The C9 yoga pants from Target are the bomb. They happen to be on sale right now in case you need any. Forgive my bluntness: I always wanted boobs. Always. From the time I was 18 years old. But alas, it just genetically wasn't to be. A-cup (okay, they're really a AA-cup) for the rest of my life. It was either live with 'em or get 'em enhanced. Thank goodness I never really felt I had the extra funds to enhance.

So I spend my remaining older years without feeling "sexy". I know this is too too silly. My simple-living philosophy, along with my common sense and DH's feedback, tells me I'm too silly. And I have the added bonus of not HAVING to wear a bra once I get out of the workplace (I wear a bra for modesty, not necessity). I should be grateful.

But I'm still kinda jealous of y'alls problems with wearing bras.....(and they ARE the devil's invention, I'm sure. If not, why can't someone make a comfortable one, in ANY size?)

Well, if all you have to worry about is "perkiness" (aka nipple show), maybe just wear bandaids in strategic places and go braless at work? :D I was in a wedding when I was in college and the seamstress engineered the dress when altering it so I didn't have to wear a bra (I wasn't quite so large then). I just wore bandaids. Oh, I was so comfortable. The bride and rest of the bridesmaids griped about their uncomfy strapless bras all evening!

You want some? You can have some of mine. I'm a G. Seriously. Some of it is extra weight, but most of it is genetics. I have an aunt (mom's sister) who is of the "only needs bandaids" persuasion, and when I was 13 or so, one of her flat 30-something daughters was telling to "show 'em off."

Just took a shower, so I'm in a purple thermal yoga-type pants and long sleeved shirt. I guess they're pajamas, but I don't wear anything when I sleep so maybe they're lounging wear. Cotton socks to absorb the tons of lotion I put on my feet, covered by fleecy purple socks. Oh, and my wool blanket 'borrowed' from Virgin Atlantic many years ago.

I'm a sweats or t-shirt/shorts girl as my at-home wear too. Shoes and bra come right off when I get in the door. I also have "exquisite miniatures", as my mom calls our lack of cleavage, and am quite happy with them. Always perky, never in the way, and they make you look younger. Great thread

Right now: Underwear from ALCO $7.99 for 4 pairs! Bought last year - very comfy

Bra from Walmart $10.38 - bought last summer, relatively comfy

Socks from Talbots $7.00! But bought probably around 2004/2005 when I was losing weight, I would buy myself a pair of socks. So if I went down a pound in a week, a pair of socks from Talbots would be mine!

Jeans - thrift store bought in Feb 2009 for $7.34 - They have lasted me a long time and they are a really good brand

T-Shirt - my Mom got it for me. I believe I might have over 25% of my clothes that are given to me by my Mom or my Aunt. Mostly T-Shirts but I might have to get rid of some of them, except for the memories. So I switch them out throughout the year, and therefore it does not seem so overwhelming.

Watch - bought May 2011, a Casio from Walmart, Huge purchase of $20.71 - It took me over 45 minutes to figure out which one I wanted. I did not want plastic, nor too big nor metal and had to come in either brown or black. I only wear it for work or when "time is of the essence."

Wedding band - 14 years ago - pawn shop! My fancy wedding band and engagement ring are locked up for safety and I only take them when we go someplace fancy. Or I am going out with my sister and mom (not too often!)

Sneakers - bought at a thrift store $5-8 (bought some shoes last year and just put down shoes!)

When I am working as a Park Ranger, I wear an uniform, and each season we are given an allowance ($160) to spend on updating the uniform. I usually get socks (I go through them fast!) and then usually a pair of pants and a shirt. Hopefully I will not need shoes or a new hat as that would blow all of the uniform allowance. I have to spend it or lose it, so Lots of socks. We rangers have a game where we try to go to the very last penny without going over. My coworker won it by buying a couple of buttons and got down to below 0.05!

I have a story for you all:

One May, in college, I decided I would buy a package of thongs to see what all the fuss was about. I was at Target with my sister and my cousin, who ran away blushing. Well, I brought them home and put them away. Then my mom and sister and I were downstairs eating some birthday cake because my brother was having his birthday party. He must have been 7 or 8, and had some friends over, who were all chatting and eating and making a ruckus in the other part of the room, but within earshot. So we were chatting about upcoming plans, etc., and my sister was teasing that maybe I should wear my new purchase out that night. So my mother cannot be without knowing everything so she had to know what the purchase was. Since the boys were right there, I whispered "thong underwear." She has a reeeeaaaaalllllllly loud voice and says "What do you want those for?!" I replied, "Well, they are the in thing, a lot of women like them because then you have no panty line." "YOU BOUGHT LONG UNDERWEAR SO YOU WON'T HAVE A PANTY LINE?!"

We roar about it to this day . . . :D

lhamo
1-3-12, 7:21pm
I also don't get the whole thong thing. What is the point -- wouldn't it be easier to just go commando? When my underwear elastic starts wearing out and the whole inward creep things starts, I get myself new ones....

I also have to note that my standard winter sleeping wear is USUALLY the fleece pants mentioned above, a t-shirt, and an old moth-eaten cashmere sweater. I actually got the idea to turn that into sleepwear here a few years ago, when I was dismayed to find the moth holes in the sweater. It's been putting in daily duty for about five years now, and still is nice and cozy. I consider the moth holes ventilation.

We're having a cold snap in coastal NC after 70 degree weather this weekend. It's going down to 22 tonight. Brrr. Just went out to eat with friends and I'm wearing tights, black corduroy slacks, a red turtle neck sweater and a fleece vest that I love. It was purchased in the airport in Victoria BC many moons ago and is in Autumn hues of red, dark blue and golds with orange moose...it makes me happy to wear it...kind of a silly vest and my favorite article of clothing.

Almost bedtime here ... but still wearing old and too-big pants (black) and blouse (blue print) that don't fit AT ALL (I've lost 70-80#) but who cares, I'm home. I also always wear a full apron (red - I have about six of them) when I'm home -- that's the only way I can keep decent clothes. Socks (black). I never wear shoes inside. Of course bra and undies. Sometimes don't wear a bra, but of course always undies. When I go to bed I'll be wearing old and too-big jammies (light blue) that I've cut the back out of the top. I hate my back to be hot, so even when it's really cold I wear my backless jammie top. And socks -- I don't like my feet cold. DH wears shorts and T-shirt to bed, but of course during the day wears Levis and a t-shirt and perhaps a real shirt. When we go uptown I change into pants that fit (black or blue), because you can see them below my coat (dark blue), but may not change my shirt, depending on where we're going. I do "dress" for church, tho. :-D

Old, retired, simple, and cheap -- works for me. Good night!

Plain white socks
Two-year-old flip flops that are falling apart

My current schedule is to work at home from 8 to 10, then go into the office. So, right now, I am wearing my fleece robe (a gift from a friend, several years ago), velour pants (gift from step-mom, many years ago), and fleece slippers (new, bought by me on sale, finally found the right ones after too many years without good slippers).

I need to shower soon and then get dressed for work, which is business casual, so, slacks and blouse, or skirt & tights and blouse. The heat is on so high at work this time of year (ugh) that I never wear sweaters unless it's a cardigan I can take off. Layers are a must.

Pink t-shirt, black leggings (not a pretty sight, so only worn inside). black socks, cross necklace, glasses held together with electrical and strapping tape.
Oh, yeah, underwear, too. Clothing cheap stuff from Walmart, as I just don't spend money on stuff for knocking around the house.

It hits me with this thread, that we SLer's adhere mostly to a "function over fashion" sensibility, at least where our home-wear is concerned. I love it. We have our own sense of "home style fashion", and it certainly isn't fashionable by any stretch of the imagination, our criteria demands only that it's comfy and it's cheap.

Every week or two I visit my best girlfriend of a Saturday morning or afternoon, and she's makeup-less and has sweats on and maybe a tee and 2 shirts over it and maybe fuzzy striped socks with clogs over them, and her hair pulled back with twine, and we drink coffee around the woodstove and laugh about life and things and I look at her and think how ridiculous and ADORABLE she looks. While we're having fun together getting caught up. It's a fashion statement all it's own. It's a SL fashion statement.

I also wear black yoga pants at home almost every day. I change into them almost immediately after getting through the door!

I'm at work at the moment (it's so quiet here, it's ridiculous, so I thought check out the forums...), so I'm wearing:
teal-coloured woolen sweater with a cowl neck (the heating in this place is rubbish)
dark straight-leg jeans
black Clarks sporty-type mary janes
purple wool socks with little polka dots
cheapo ring I bought myself when I was 14
cheapo watch with a brown leather strap
work ID badge on a lanyard
not sure everyone needs to know what undies I've got on :P

LOL. Everytime I have looked at this thread I've been wearing some variation of yoga pants, a t-shirt and a hoodie. It must be my uniform.

Interesting that so many of us wear yoga pants; I've never owned a pair. Jeans are definitely my comfy downtime clothes; in fact, that's pretty much what I live in outside of work.

I'm in a panic. Penney's quit carrying the jeans that I have bought there for years and years.

Black yoga/sweatpants (bought at Target 10? years ago),
a purple thermal top (thrift store),
and a cute pixie hat that dd crocheted.
And thick lavender socks from the dollar store.
Gold wire hoop earrings (the only earrings I wear) and my wedding band.
Underwear, Hanes, and a blue and purple fairy design tank top (American Apparel) that I got at a garage sale for .75 (I remember that because I got 4 of them, all different, and they are possibly my favorite pieces of clothing.)

Worked in the garden most of the day wearing my Keen boots from Sierra Trading Post and using my home-made utility belt.

Another day in paradise.

Just back from a half day of running errands, so I'm in more "outdoor" comfy clothes. It is snowing here today, so I have on:

Thick grey wool blend hiking socks purchased at REI in the early- to mid-1990s -- these are the socks by which I measure all other socks, as they just keep going and going and going. I have about four pairs and I swear I have pretty much worn them every day all winter for the past two decades and they still are going strong with no sign of wear. They don't seem to make them anymore, which makes me terribly sad. I tried smartwool hoping they would be similar, but they aren't -- expensive smartwool socks are wearing out at the heels after only 2 years. Sigh....

Cream colored calpilene long johns from PAtagonia. Splurged on these about 10 years ago because our office had some kind of discount deal with Patagonia. Very good purchase. Have a few small holes and runs in them but still functional -- nobody sees them under my pants, anyway.

Hanes undies and Bali bra. Both getting near the end of their useful life (underwire is broken), but I hang on to them for weekend wear.

Purple cotton turtleneck -- no name brand from the thrift store. Way to big, actually. But comfy. LIke many of my turtlenecks, the elastic around the neck is wearing out, but I keep them for weekend wear.

Gap jeans from the thrift store. At least I think they are from the thrift store, because I haven't bought a pair of jeans at the Gap for over a decade.

Blue Columbia fleece jacket, also from the thrift store.

A big hairy, slubby thrifted wool blend sweater in shades of brown over thrifted jeans. Black hiking Crocs so old I don't think they have any tread left. The narrow gold and diamond band my beloved gave me on our first Christmas together. So chic, moi. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/icq/cool.gif

I'm wearing jeans, a belt, a red t-shirt and a black cotton sweater. All from the second hand store. The sweater is probably 4 years old, the shirt 2, and the pants and belt are both just a couple months old.

You know, from where I'm standing, no matter what you're wearing, you all look absolutely lovely :)
