When I was deciding yesterday if i was sick or if I just had indigestion I noticed my heart rate was jumping to 150-160 a few times. I was sitting down at the time. Iget lightheaded after that but I ate enough that day. I have evencut down on caffeine. I ended up going home and sleeping for 3 hours, not sure what was wrong. Just a funny symptom

Not getting enough quality sleep, or, not sleeping enough, can lead to just such symptoms. Are you getting enough sleep/rest?

That's way too fast for just getting sick or being tired. I'm guessing you have some sort of PAT or SVT. (Paroxysmal atrial tachycardia or Supraventricular tachy).
Are you sure you were counting your pulse correctly?
If it happens again, you should see your doc.
The few times I have gotten the flu, my heart rate did speed up as the first symptom. But like I said, 150-160 is too fast. You got lightheaded because that's too fast for your heart to adequately pump blood.
I'm not trying to scare you.......just letting you know if it happens again to have it checked out.
Are you on any meds for anything else?

I do get enough sleep, not too stressed so I tend to sleep like the dead (at least my guy says so).

I have asthma but rarely needs any meds. Other medications are all for my brain and it has not been said they affect heart rate at all. I have pretty much always had this happen. as far as I can recall. I know my meditation breathing can slow it down faster. I was at 39 beats in 15 seconds so that seems correct, the second time about 30 in the same time frame. I do have a heart murmer, nothing I have needed treatment for either.

So I won't freak out but maybe call the nurse line and see if they want to see me.

Murmurs are usually indicative of a valve problem, which can definitely cause runs of tachycardia.

So I emailed my DR and he replied today that I should make an appointment. I will see if they can schedule today or if the office is closed for MLK

BTW clean bill of health. It is likely this type of tachycardia that is not going to increase my chances of things like a heart attack. So rather than look at meds or more tests I am just going to track it. It happens 2-3 a year and does not make me pass out or feel ill past the time my heart rate is up. Other than that my heart looks good, resting heart rate good, and I am looking fit from running and all.

I think this is common in perimenopause and beyond. Remember Aunt Pittypat from Gone with the Wind?

I had some fun heart racing antics during perimenopause when I drank coffee. What a rush. Reminded me of those fun days of my youth when I took speed.

Middle age is so un-fun. :( ha ha
