View Full Version : Pur Water Filters: Are They Worth the Price?
I bought one of these gizmos (filter included) about two months ago, and already it needs a new filter. I've been careful to only use it when necessary. Just got a new filter and it was $21.95!! It's a nuisance, too, since I have to take it off to fill the portable humidifer (every day) and gets in the way at other times as well.
Any opinions on these?
Nothing on the market IMO is worth the manufacturers set asking price, but speaking from experience, having invested in a refrigerator with a water-filtration/ice dispenser system, we are very pleased with the Pur line of filters thus far. Pure, clean, fresh tasting water, every glass, and no worries over contaminants.
We used to have the Pur faucet-mount filter. I was unhappy that the filter housing seemed to last only about a year before it would crack and require replacement, and also that the filter cartridges were so expensive.
After looking at other options, I calculated the cost of filtered water by the gallon using 3 options: pitcher filter system, faucet-mount system, and undersink filter. The undersink filter was by far the cheapest option. The filters that we buy cost about $30 and last for 6 months. The filter housing is really sturdy and has been installed for about 5 years.

Thanks for the reply. Does the undersink filter require plumbing work? Where do you get them?
The undersink filter is very easy to install. Minor plumbing work is necessary, but nothing that requires a plumber.
We bought ours at a large midwestern hardware store. I imagine you could find them online, too.
