View Full Version : Coffee storage...
Since the dawn of time, I have kept coffee in the freezer. Can't remember where I heard about storing coffee in the freezer, but have always practiced the freeze-storage method.
Do you guys practice the freezer method, also?

I always kept coffee in the freezer until I read something about the oils in the coffee. I don't remember what it was but it made enough sense to me that I now keep it in the cupboard.
We buy it one week's worth at a time, so it lives in the cupboard.
We keep most of it in the freezer, but keep smaller quantities in a jar on the counter, since I think making fresh coffee with frozen stuff probably isn't as tasty.

When I get the beans home, I transfer them to an airtight storage jar, which lives on top of the fridge. My coffee maker grinds and brews, so I keep the coffee in bean form until it's time to brew a pot. I buy less than a pound at a time, so it doesn't hang around too long.

I keep all the beans in the freezer (currently 7 bags). I mix and grind up a small coffee cans worth and also keep that in the freezer. I hadn't read about that being bad. Now I'm going to have to look that up.
Thanks for the input everyone. I've done a little further research on it, and everything (information wise) points in the direction of steering clear of freezer storage. Cool, dark, and dry, are the ideal storage requirements for coffee. I'm not too overly concerned, because coffee doesn't last long in our home, but it's always interesting to hear what others do.
I use a Lock and Lock and keep it in a cupboard.
I've heard the same thing about nuts as well; better not to store in the freezer.
Nice to hear from you, Anne Lee. I've since changed my storage ways. Inside the pantry in a Ziploc bag. Have you by chance seen those nifty coffee vaults?

I keep mine in the refrigerator. Both of my Grandmothers and my Mother kept their coffee there, so I have always done the same....

What's a Lock and Lock?
Here's (http://www.locknlockplace.com/index.php/lock-lock-rectangular-food-container-with-tray-tall-20-cup-162-fluid-ounces.html) what Anne Lee is talking about, Fidgiegirl.
