For those of you in the know - could someone please tell me what the lyrics "rolling in the deep" mean from Adele's big hit song. I have some thoughts on what it might be, but would love to be enlightened by someone who really knows... >8) :D
I've never heard an explanation of that actual lyric.

She described it to Rolling Stone as an, "adaptation of a kind of slang, slur phrase in the UK called 'roll deep,' which means to have someone, always have someone that has your back, and you're never on your own, if you're ever in trouble you've always got someone who's going to come and help you fight it or whatever like that. And that's how I felt in the relationship that the record's about, especially 'Rolling in the Deep.' That's how I felt, you know, I thought that's what I was always going to have, and um, it ended up not being the case."

This is a great song, it's a new classic. Well, at least it's a tuneful song, so many are not.

Wildflower:
A poster in the Urban Dictionary explains "Rolling in the Deep is a description of one who is experiencing the absolute depths of ... perfect love, or ... the pure, passionate, ethereal pain caused by betrayal, rejection or an unrequited love..."
So I take it the song is empathy with she who has loved, lost, and is moving on. The lyrics also express the theme: you're gonna reap what you sow...
"You're gonna make your house down there, it reminds you of the home we shared" I would paraphrase as: welcome to the world of auto-eroticism, you narcissistic loser.
I was pleased to see Adele's recognition at the Grammy's. She has been gracious about her young fans who absolutely adore her. For example, Denise Bestman (who now sings in Target commercials!), who can be seen with the PS322 Chorus at

There is much to admire here: Denise's lungs, of course... but also the chorus (the auditorium half-filled with green shirts on one side, blue shirts on the other), and the chorus leader, putting it all together, makin' it happen! I assume he is a certified teacher, maybe a teacher whom the state legislature thinks ought to be easier for school districts to lay off.
She came across as a very genuine person. Very grateful for recognition after singing her song. And modestly dressed - wow she is unusual!

LC and dado potato, thanks for enlightening me. :)
Thanks for that explanation. I too, have wondered what "rolling in the deep" meant, and every time I have heard it I picture people scuba diving.
