DS called us Saturday night (he lives alone) and said that he felt worse than he'd ever felt in his life with a temp of 102, and it all came on suddenly. We drove down to get him and he's slowly starting to recover. I just couldn't stand thinking of him so far away and no one to take care of him.
But yesterday.....it hit me all of a sudden too. Like other flu's, the first thing I noticed was a fast heart rate. Then my body starting hurting so much I couldn't stand it. I was pretty much awake all night, groaning. I can only take acetaminophen and I can't use my cpap because I'm coughing so hard.
I hadn't heard of anyone else in the area being sick. Is it going around where you are? I'm sure it didn't help to have such a mild winter and alot of germs weren't killed off.
I think having fibromyalgia too makes all my flu pains worse. My entire body hurts.
I sure hope it goes away soon. Not fun at all! rrrrr

A few people here (Michigan) have had it. I've also read that it's usually late this year so that might explain the timing. I hope you're feeling better soon!

Ugh. I would get a cough suppressant so you can sleep with your cpap. It is in deep sleep that our helper T cells are released to boost immune function, and healing occurs. Sleep is the critical ingredient. Feel better soon!

I'm sorry to hear this, whatever you can do to get good sleep is essential.

I don't get flu (except for that unfortunate incident last year when I got a flu shot for the first and only time!) and even then it was a light case. I will send you some of my spit spit and that will keep your healthy. Of, it will make you sick (er.)

My SIL had it and it has taken him a full 3 weeks from beginning to end to get better. My DD even took him to the ER when he was so sick the first week. They kept him for several hours and he had to have IV fluids since he was so dehydrated at that point. No antibiotics were given as it was determined he had the flu.

He is the only one in the family that hadn't had a flu shot....

Feel better, CathyA!

Hi, CathyA. I thought I had the flu in January. I went to the clinic anyway, because most respiratory things end up as sinus infections for me, so I was hoping to get an antibiotic if I might have already morphed into sinus-ville. Anyway, it was a good thing I went to the clinic because it ended up being pneumonia. Two different antibiotic treatments later, and a two week shot of Flovent, and I am finally feeling much better. But the doc laughed when I suggested flu because he hadn't seen ANY this year. However, pneumonia seems to have been quite common at least here this winter.

Maybe seeing your doc is a good idea. I know that when I went to the clinic, I felt far too sick to go....couldn't imagine sitting for a long time waiting but also couldn't imagine going back home feeling that bad.

sending very good wishes for health and healing...

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all your well-wishes! I can't stand laying down all the time and got up to do a few things, but now I'm worn out, but I wanted to say thanks.

In l995 I got a horrible case of influenza. Felt like I would surely die. Then I got pneumonia, ear infections, then fibromyalgia and IBS followed soon after that. I was out of commission for several months.
DH is listening to my chest daily to be sure it isn't pneumonia........but I'm wondering about bronchitis. My horrendous muscle pains have eased up but now I have a low fever.
Also, I have such horrible coughing jags, that my head hurts alot. I'm trying not to over-use the acetaminophen, since I want the fever to do its job.
I sure hadn't planned my week to be like this! I am taking zinc and drinking O.J. If things don't improve in a couple days, we have some antibiotics. (one perk of being married to an M.D.!)

When I feel something coming on, I like to have a cup of hot ginger (fresh) tea with lemon and honey. Hope you feel better soon.
