This could go in several different forums and I've spent 3 days thinking about which one it would fit in best and finally just gave up so it's in the Open Forum.!Splat!

I'm turning 45 on Monday and what I wanted most was some time away by myself.
I'm doing a personal retreat.
I haven't quite narrowed down my choice of where to go yet but have several options: cabin on the lake here, cabin on the Buffalo river about 40 minutes south of here, cabin on another river north and east of here.

My goal is to take some naps, take some walks, do some meditating/prayer, make a few lists and maybe a few life decisions.

I'm leaving Saturday and will return Monday night. WooHoo!

Good for you! I greatly treasure my time alone and hope you enjoy every minute of yours wherever you choose to go. And may I add wishes for a very happy birthday and a wonderful 45th year of life!

Happy B-Day to you soon. Your retreat sounds great! Today is my B-day and I just decided to hang around in my 'hood and play beach volleyball later today since it's close to 80 here in SoCal. Plus I need the workout before my pig-a-thon tonight with friends of (very non-vegan) lobster, cake, ice cream and champagne. Us old broads know how to treat ourselves right - or at least find people who will treat us right :-)!

Happy Birthday!!!! (ETA: To you both, of course!) So, Spartana, does that make you Aquarius, or Pisces? Cusp? Spartana, I see you definitely more of an Aquarian--Float On, more of a Pisces (But I'm not astrologer, I just learned a bit by osmosis from my mom, who was an amazingly intuitive amateur astrologer)

As for you FloatOn, good move! I did that last year, and it was just awesome. I would love to revisit my poustinia, but this is not the right year. But just pick a place that feels like you. Use your intuition.

I'm also having a big birthday in March--I'll be 60. It's hard to even say it, because I really can't believe it. I feel awesome, and I feel like I look great until I look in the mirror :)

What a lovely way to spend your birthday! I've taken a couple of retreats, and they've been just what I've need to replenish my soul. The first one gathered a lot of interest from the locals: I'd borrowed my brother's camp cabin and all the locals were wondering 1) who I was and 2) why I was alone. They all made a point of "being friendly" and coming to say hi, but (based on other stories from my brother) I know they were just really nosy. :laff:

Hope you have fun!

Happy, happy birthdays to two of my favorite simple livers.....(yeah, that always looks like "liver," you know, the stuff you feed to the dog when he's very, very good?)....happy retreat, FloatOn, and happy lobster, Spartana.

Someday I am going to have a retreat too but I wish I had thought of such a thing when I was living with my three kids. That would have been MOST welcome.

Oh.My.Word. look at what I was able to book for the weekend. Sweetheart of a lady out on her daily walk when I called to see if this would be available on such short notice. I'm getting a whole cottage for less than most hotel rooms. She said she'd leave a key under the mat on the front porch and I'll leave cash on the table when I leave. It's only 40 minutes away. Not on, but not far from the Buffalo. I'm headed down Saturday morning to hit my favorite little haunts in Harrison, AR and pick up some groceries, and then head over to the cottage. They also have a beautiful large cabin that I'd love to rent with the whole family sometime.

Catherine was right - after looking at probably 300 options this one just felt like the right place.

I'm a picsces - the shy, kindly, gentle, mild mannered, dreamy-eyed fish. OK - well not exactly spot on but I do like water :-)! I don't know much about horoscopes - and I don't know why there are always two fish for pisces instead of one, but maybe it just means I'm spending my life swimming in circles. I wonder if that means I never grow old - or up? I like that :-)!

So, inline with Gregg's post, would you rather never grow old or never grow up (you can't do both in MY game :-)!). I'd rather never grow up!

Float on - I am SOOO jealous! You are gonna have so much fun, quiet and solitude. I'm going hiking this weekend with a guy I'm all swoony over, but other than that it'll be a quiet B-Day weekend.

Spartana, I think you hit it head on with the "swimming in circles". I love the water too and would also describe myself as a bit shy, kind, gentle, mild mannered (unless you tick me off, then I'll give you the evil eye), creative, and always seeking a peaceful place.

I am sooooooooo envious! One of my dreams has been to go away somewhere ALONE! I know I could do it, and may yet, but just kinda hate to bring it up to DH. He tires to be very accommodating to me, and recognizes that I NEED to be alone sometimes, but that's only for a few hours at best that I get. And it's hard to explain why a person longs to go and spend a few days all alone, but it's just there. Maybe someday, but till then Float On, enjoys yours and please tell us all about it when you return.

Enjoy your birthday weekend Float On. I hope you receive the peace and direction you are looking for. I think the answers are always inside of us but sometimes we really need the quiet of withdrawal from our regular lives to listen. Happy Birthday!

Wow, Float On!!!! Can I come? no, wait this is just for you. Oh, well, I don't live that far from you, so I could go sometime myself.

Have a blast and tell us all about it.
