How do I post a photo in a reply from my own computer?

I can't figure it out.

I see the 'Insert Image' icon above, but it asks for a URL and I just want to post a photo from my own computer, not one from the web.

Thanks.

Also, is there a way to re-size pictures you post in threads? Everytime I post a photos it's HUGE (my big giant head!!!) and I can't figure out how to make it smaller. Is there a way?

Click on the photo in your album you want to post in a thread. At the bottom of the photo are 2 lines - right click on the one that says "BB Codes". Press "copy" and then, once you are posting in a thread, just right click again and "paste" the BB Code into the threrad. It'll show up as a photo once you post the thread.

Also, if you delete a photo in your album, or delete your album, then it'll delete your photo in the thread too. I changed my "album" privacy settings from "public" to "profile" so that other people can't see any of my album photos. If you want your album to be so that everyone can see them, leave them set at "public".

Practicing: My rat-dog! We have the same scruffy hair style :-)!

Spartana, I have got any photos in the album yet. How do I get them onto the SLF album from my computer?

There are versions of bbcode which allow you to specify a size for your image to display, unfortunately, this forum software doesn't use the custom bbcode necessary to allow it. Although it could be added if one of the administrators felt comfortable adding the custom code.

Without that, your only option is to size the photo appropriately at it's source. In other words, edit your photos to a specific size prior to uploading them to the photo sharing site, or to your photo album on this site. I usually size mine to 640x480, which makes it large enough to see all the details, but not so large as to stretch the resolution on the average rendered page.

OK I see that you already created an album. If you have photos on your computer then you do it this way: Click on your album and in the upper right hand corner it will say "upload photos" . Click on that and then that open a small window and at the top of the small window it will say "upload files". Click on that and then on the "select files" at the bottom and you will see all your computer files. Find the one with the photos you want to upload and open it, then open the photo's you want to post and press "upload" again at the bottom of the small window. Once you do that they will show up at the bottom of the small window and, once you have all the photos you want to add to your albums in that space, click "done' in the lower right hand corner. Then click "done" again when it asks if you want to save your changes. Then they will be in your album and you only need to follow my instructions above to post them in threads. It sounds complex but is super easy.

OK thanks I'll try that.

OK thanks I'll try that.
One other thing, keep in mind the orientation of your photo. If it's oriented in a landscape mode, the 640x480 should work well, if it's in a portrait mode, perhaps you should reverse the numbers. There's no really right size, the key is finding the right height/width to maintain your aspect ratio.

Do you do that on the camera or on the computer? My sister gave ae her old 2.1 pixel camera the other day and so I'm practicing on it before I decide to spend more for a better one. It doesn't have many features on it being a $20 model so may only be able to point and shoot at that level. I tried to re-size the dog photo on my computer but couldn't - just crop it. Will see if I can do it via the camera. Thanks

You need a photo editing application that is capable of re-sizing photos. For that simple task, I usually use Microsoft Paint, but if I recall properly, versions of Paint prior to Vista may not have the resizing option.

If you're using Windows and don't have that option in your version of Microsoft Paint, you could try a freeware image editing solution such as Paint.Net (http://www.getpaint.net/).

Ok, Spartana, it worked out just as you stated so far.
Here is a picture of Dutchmans' Breeches that I saw last spring for the first time.

Ha Ha! My Dad's other dog (named Coco by my Dad and Snarls Barkly by me - and who has since died) that I inherited when he died - along with Latte (ratdogs' real name - my Dad named her not me) - looked exactly like an ewok. We called her very crazy shenanigans 'Ewokian".

Razz, no photo showing. I see you have a photo in your albums. You should just be able to right click on the BB Code, copy and then paste into a thread here.

Microsoft Office Picture Manager also has a resizing tool. Right click on the image, choose Open With, and see if it comes up in the list.

Yes it does, the only problem with that application is that it's part of Microsoft Office, which not everyone has access to.

When making recommendations, I try to stick with freeware and open source applications. Speaking of which, GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) is a wonderful, open source app which will also work on multiple operating systems, although it is so multi-featured there's a significant learning curve.

While I can't say for sure, I'd suspect your link in the bbcode is to the photo on your local computer. That would allow you to retrieve the image in your browser, but the rest of us, with no access to your computer, would see nothing.

Or, more likely, you have your album set to 'Private', meaning only you, your contacts and the forum administrators can see whatever's in it. After attempting to follow your posted link and getting a blank page as a result. I'd bet on this explanation.

You should be able to keep your album setting either "private" or "profile" and still be able to post photos into threads. I have my albums set as "profile" and don't believe anyone else can see them but me. So when someone gors to either the albums page or clicks on my profile page, it should show that I have no albums - even though I do. This allows me to post pics from my album so that people can see them in threads - like my rat dog photos above - but keeps my albums private. If anyone CAN see my albums let me know - but I think that they are cloaked and in stealth mode :-)!

That's sorta correct. If your album setting is 'Private', you can post a photo from the album to a thread, but only yourself, your "friends" or "contacts" and forum administrators can see it.

So is that the same when albums are in the "profile" setting? I think that everyone here can see the photos in the threads I posted (can you?) since I got feed back about them. So maybe they can see the photos from the albums set as "profile" but not from the albums set as "private" but can't actually see the whole "profile" album itself - as I think it said only I could see those albums and no one else.

The vBulletin manual is kinda vague on this, but I think you've got it right.
