Just in case anyone missed the redirect above, the "Ohio" thread was moved to Simple Public Policy. The nature and content of that thread make SPP a more fitting destination. This was done at the (reasonable) request of several members and the mod team agreed that it makes sense. No other changes of modifications were made to the thread. Please follow the redirect link above or simply go to Simple Public Policy to continue to participate in that thread.

well I for one am going to post here. As I wrote on the other thread I am not against guns although I have never used one and don't own one.

As I wrote in the other thread I was assaulted yesterday and fortunately got away with a black eyes an contusions. I was doing nothing wrong or provocative. A wrong place wrong time kind of deal.

So here is my dilemma. My attacker is on the street, despite me being the fourth victim in less than a year. Thanks to our newspaper everyone knows who I am including them. So what do I do?

I decided to go to a relatives house for a few days several hundred miles away. So it makes me feel better, but still creeped out.

If I had a gun and good weapons training I would probably sleep in my bed tonight.

Oh sweetie I am so so so sorry. The f****ing perp. I'm glad that you are getting far away for a few days. Don't talk about in detail. I cannot understand how an assault perp is out on the street, but you don't need to answer that. Here in my 'hood where crime is rife, I will tell you that assault causes the mf's to be locked up. The Po-lice don't put up with that chit. My neighborhood don't put up with that kind of chit, we show up en masse at the perp's hearing and he is in lock-up until trial.

While we do have to put up with car thieves and petty thieves and aggressive panhandlers and the like in the catch and release program, any physical harm done to citizens causes that perp some sincere regret.

Oh flowers, I'm so glad you are able to put some distance between you and a most unfortunate and undeserved situation. If you do ultimately decide to arm yourself please consult with one of the more learned members here or with local experts. The last thing any of us want is for you to be at risk of any further harm due to lack of proper information or training.

((Flowers)) - I hope you are doing better and, again, I'm so sorry you had to experience that. As Gregg pointed out, if you do decide to arm yourself (not normally a solution I would recomend for most people who haven't had LOTS of firearm training) make sure and get a very good expert to train you. I'm like most people who have carried a firearm both personally and professionally for decades, I find that people who do not have proper training often risk greater injury to themselves or others.
