View Full Version : To Rosarugosa and Blackdog Lin. (Quitting smoking progress).
I've been thinking about you two (lots), like every time I visit here lately. How are you two making out with quitting?

Hi Mrs M,
Thanks for asking; DH & I are doing well. Breathing better, sleeping better, more energy. Today will be day 79. After this week, I plan on decreasing from 4 mg to 2 mg with the Nicorette. However, in true frugal fashion I'm planning to keep buying the 4 mg and cutting them in half, since the 2 mg cost the same as the 4 mg.
I haven't really put myself to the test of spending time with smokers yet, and I'm a little apprehensive about that. We're going to a concert next Fri night with DSIL and DBIL, so that will be a good first test since smoking isn't allowed in restaurants or the venue (although I'm sure there will still be some smoking in the venue since it's a Grateful Dead related show, but it will be surreptitious and mostly not tobacco - LOL). They've said the are OK with not smoking in the car to & from, and we could also take separate cars if necessary since it's only about 10 miles (although that would be more expensive in terms of gas/parking costs).
I've got to put myself to this challenge at some point, since some of our close friends and family are smokers. DH says he is not worried, he has made up his mind that he will never smoke again and doesn't feel susceptible to temptation. So he will help to keep me strong!
Fantastic! hang in there. At day 79 you have it licked mostly. One of the things that helped me when I quit, if I ever started thinking a cig smelled good, I'd just sniff the clothes or hair of someone who smoked (close friend or family, obviously:~)) YUCK! How nasty it makes you and your clothes smell! Like the bottom of a week old ashtray! But, when we smoke, we don't smell that. After I quit, I made the rounds apologizing to my non smoker friends for stinking up their homes and cars.:|(
Way to go, Rosa! That's great! The part I missed most after quitting, was holding a cigarette, and dashing it. Pretty sad when you do something for so long that you actually miss the steps and actions associated with that particular habit (not so much the habit itself). I don't think I once missed the smell or taste, but watching someone else smoke, drove me crazy for quite a while after.
You're so lucky having each other to feed off of (support). I was the lone smoker in our house, so I was on my own, and being a stay-at-home mom didn't help either. Anyhow, so happy for you I am! Stay strong! And feel free to drop-by for a visit anytime.
Peggy. Re: the smell, so true. I pick up on that (all the time now)! My nose is so sensitive to it.
