View Full Version : Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.
I woke up this morning with the 60's/70's on my mind.
Remember the days when certain things you bought, carried the "Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval" on it/them? It was a guarantee (of sorts), where something was good for "so many washings", or "so many wearings", or "guaranteed for a certain amount of time with average use".
It's been such a long time since I have seen anything with a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval on it. How about where you live, do you ever come across goods that carry the seal? Do they even still do the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval anymore?
It is steal alive, at least in the Publisher's mind.

A little unintentional humor, the related "limited warantee" warrants everything that gets the seal (with some exceptions).
The exceptions list appears to include almost anything anyone sells. The big print giveth, the small print taketh away.

Oh, yes, I remember the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. Haven't looked for it or thought about it in a long time. It may actually be on stuff around here, but I wouldn't know it. I don't ever recall my mother saying anything about it. Do people still look for that seal today?
Thank you for the link, Steve. The video provides a great addition to the article.
Domestic Goddess. We're all gathering at my mom and dads place this weekend, and I'm going to ask her about it. My mind is a little foggy in remembering what products carried the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, but I do remember it being on a lot of things.
I think one thing that made me think of it is the way things are today. So much of what we (the consumers) are offered and is available to us is garbage. Not a lot in the way of true, honest-to goodness guarantees, and no stamp of approval, claiming that "so and so" will last for "such and such" a time, etc.
I miss the days when selection was limited, but the things that were available were quality, and they lasted... And of course, it wasn't all made in China, Malaysia, or India, like nowadays.

I just assume that this is an advertising gimmick and I never put any stock in it or even paid attention to it.
I gave thought to that, too, Iris. Maybe twenty- thirty years ago, the seal, meant something, but having not seen anything with the seal on it for such a long time, I do question it.
