My high school french teacher just forwarded me this link, of some incredible WWII photos taken with a Kodak 4x5 camera:

I found these WWII era photos terrific. Their clarity is unique in my experience of 1940's era photos and bring those people to life more than in any other such series I've seen.

For my friends and family interested in preserving history, in the WWII era, in glimpsing a world of your parents or grandparents (or great-grandparents), take a look. The original series is in Russian, as you'll see, but a translation is "clickable":

Incredible images. I'd seen the last image of the New Mexico homesteaders before. My Mom's family history is very similar to that story so I guess it sticks in my head. Thanks for sharing bae!

Wow! I followed one of the links to shorpy.com which has LOTS AND LOTS of old photos of all kinds of things, especially railroads, which DH loves. Thank you thank you for posting this! We are going to have a great time visiting all of this!

Stunning what those photographers could do with a '40s Kodak! I love the way that so many of the women working in the factories are wearing makeup, nail polish, and even some pretty nice blouses. I'm surprised they were that dressed up to go work in manufacturing. Thanks for posting.

Of course, I'm sure that some of those young women knew they would be being photographed, so had on their "best bib and tucker", but still, I'm sure even though they were doing those kinds of work, they made real efforts to "maintain their femininity" as that was considered really important back then.

Such great photos.....thanks for posting, bae.
