View Full Version : How to ask doctor for a "group" discount

DH and I both need to have two moles looked at and biopsied by our doctor (we use the same one). But I'm dreading going in because I know we'll be charged for two visits at about $100 a piece. Plus the lab work, of course.

Has anyone had any success asking their doc for a family discount? Is a 2-for-1 discount a crazy thing to ask?

Just wondering. Thanks!

I'd think a cash discount would be a more attractive offer.

My dentist gives a 10% cash discount--not credit card, but cash or check--for his work.

My optomitrist gives a 30% discount for not using insurance. They accept credit cards.

Before I had health insurance, my doctor took care of me for $10 per visit. There wasn't a break on labs, but I always mentioned my lack of health insurance and they sent the stuff to the cheapest place. It worked well for me. I would definitely ask for a discount; he could only say no.

Do you already know the moles will need to be biopsied? They will probably have to be sent out, and your dr. may not have the option of a discount on that part of the visit.
I would ask for a discount on the remainder of the visit. And if one or both don't need to be biopsied, then you can pocket that amount, too.
If you both go at the same time and share an appointment, I don't see why he wouldn't give some kind of discount.

I know mine does, the doc told me I should do it last year during a routine physical but I didn't have time to do it (I know, my bad!).

Ok, I'll just get up the nerve to ask I guess. Thanks for the encouragement!
