One of my older sisters is graduating from college at the young age of 54 and I want to do something nice for her via long-distance.

My budget is tight (less than $50 would be ideal) but I want whatever I get for her to be memorable. She's worked about 10 years for this degree! She has everything she could need or want, materially speaking, which makes gift giving for her super challenging.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Will your sister's new degree be leading to greater job responsibilities? I was thinking maybe something along the lines of a nice refillable journal or padfolio cover.

How about a massage at a nice spa; a scrapbook of family pictures; a picture of the sisters together. Does she have any hobbies that might be easy to add to? Cooking? Gardening, etc.?

What is her degree in?

I would love a really good picture of graduation in a great frame. Not too big though.

A good frame for her graduation certificate so she can hang it up and enjoy the document.

A really good letter opener for her desk. Or something useful, beautiful and engraved for a desk.

I was going to suggest that, too. College bookstores have the service available (not sure on cost), or you could get a GC to a place to have it done.

Damn, I'd get a fine single malt for her & join her in kicking up your collective heels!

Maybe a beautiful pen and pencil set?

+1

I have a high quality pen with the name of my alma mater on it -- got it at the college bookstore. It's my favorite pen and is a constant reminder of my achievement.

These are fab ideas, thank you! I think the frame one might work or I could go in on a day spa certificate with my other sisters. But then again, there's the single malt idea....yum!

Her degree is in psychology but she's going straight to grad school for a Masters in Social Work (she's going for the big bucks!). Her ultimate goal is to work with elders in a residency setting.

Look at the achievement award section. I was given a small clock that was inscribed with my name and year and it sits on my dresser in a place of pride and joy. I did spend the money for a nice frame for my graduating certificate and love it as well. Part of the problem might be that other family or friends will be thinking and planning similar ideas.

Ohh, the clock idea is nice! If I don't go in on something with my sisters I'll go this route I think. As of yesterday we talked about chipping in to get her a day spa certificate but getting two of my other sisters to pay up is another matter!
