I have 3 cats and fortunately all have been amazingly healthy considering the fact that all 3 simply saw a good thing and moved in. We've had the usual expenses of yearly shots, one had a yeast infection in her ears, and once one had an infection but mostly they are healthy. But my black cat, Lucky, has started peeing in the house and yesterday afternoon I saw him pee 4 times in 15 minutes. So, suspecting a urinary tract infection, I took him in to the vet this morning. I am waiting now for a diagnosis and to find out how much this will cost. Pets are wonderful and I love them but they can be expensive

Luckily for Lucky :), and for you, urinary tract infections are pretty easy to diagnose and treat in cats. Not too expensive either, all things considered. Best wishes for a quick recovery for Lucky!

The vet's office just called and he does have a UTI. Oral antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory. You know how much I just love trying to get pills down a cat's throat... Joe is picking him up on his way home so I won't know how much it cost until he gets home.

Hopefully they gave you liquid meds. That's [relatively] easy to administer, with a small syringe (no needle). You just have one person hold them and open their mouth, then shoot the meds towards the back of their throat. Piece of cake. :)

I feel for you. In the last two years, we have lost two cats to cancer. One was on long term pain medication which helped him have a good quality of life for many more months. Somewhere along the way, one had a UTI. Then we have the URI which goes thru all 4 of them. One required force feeding and SubQ fluids until he started to eat and drink again. A different one just sneezed all over everything and got well without much help.

I love my vet, who I have had for 30 years, but not this much. Knock on wood, they are all fine right now.

My fall back technique for getting pills down cats is to crush it, mash it in a bit of butter, and smear it on their teeth. Don't laugh, it works!!:0!

Treats and sheer persistance is what I use....I hate giving meds to cats!

OK, medicine down the throat for today. 9 more days to go.

So happy to know it's nothing life-threatening.

Now we need to get the pee smell out of the carpet. Ick!

Florence, I'm glad it turned out to be something generally not too hard to treat, and usually not to expensive, either. As for the urine stain, try Nature's Miracle. It is an enzymatic pet stain remover.

Thank you domestic goddess, I will get some and give it a try.
