My grand niece will shortly be turning 1. I'm sure she will be getting lots of "stuff" for her bday, most of which she really won't appreciate/understand. I usually like to go the route of magazine subscriptions or museum passes for the under 10 crowd, but I think she is too little for even that.

Any ideas for "experience" gifts for this age? I'm looking for things to do, and not things to buy if possible (she will likely get lots of educational toys already).

Zoo! another option is an indoor play cafe. There are several cropping up, and they are great places for parents/kids on a rainy day. They often have monthly or per-trip passes, and they are safe places for the kiddos and the parents can chill. We practically lived at one in Philly. :D

A zoo or aquarium might be the best option for such a young one.

They might also have a museum for children that is touch and play oriented, think the zoo is a good idea.

Also Mommie and me sessions you might find at a local gym, they are great!

A petting zoo might be fun for her if there are any in your area.

In my area, there are multiple options for mommy and me classes, from the local parks and rec district to the Y and some private places.
