Those who have them, what does everyone rely on in the way of night lights?

We bought 3 LED Sensor Plug-in Night Lights early last year (for our kitchen), and aside from still going strong, they really help add that little bit of extra light needed to navigate down the hall and into the kitchen in the middle of the night, and according to the package, LED Sensor Night Lights cost pennies a year to operate, and the light is most pleasing.

I like pretty nightlights. I have a verdigris copper fish in the bathroom, and a blue & white china teapot in the bedroom. I tend to be a bit obsessive, so I spent a long time looking for the perfect nightlights!
I have a small utilitarian plastic one in my travel bag for use in hotel bathrooms, although many of them do have nightlights now.

I have a pretend flickering candle nightlight in the bathroom.

I have a night light in the kitchen and bathroom. I have them to lessen the danger of falls during midnight trips.

I have an automatic on at dusk LED one at the bottom of the stairs on the first floor. It gives enough light up the staircase for me to navigate to the bathroom from my bedroom - both on the second floor. If we have overnight guests, I usually add a nightlight in the bathroom too.

We have LED nightlights of varying types throughout the house, and have ever since DD was born and I spent several hours every night holding her while she cried and pacing around the house. Thankfully, nights are a lot quieter these days.

Little emergency flashlight that plugs into the wall. When you need it, it's charged, but while charging it has a small light. Thank goodness. I'd break my neck. In fact I fell over the dog the other night!

Do you guys remember when the issue was brought up on the news that using a nightlight in a child's room would cause them to be near-sighted? I wonder what became of that.
As I have gotten older, I've appreciated a really dark room more, but I still like a light in the bathroom. Nobody likes falling into the toilet. :)
There are some really cute nightlights out there.

Our night light is an aquarium in the living room, an aquarium in the dining room and the yard light that shines in through the windows. That's plenty of illumination for us to get around at night if need be.

You leave your aquarium lights on all night? Don't fishies need sleep too? :~)

Like Mrs. M, we have the LED sensor lights. I put them in the couple places that were most in need of illumination for safety, on the landing of the stairs and at the bottom of the stairs in a short hallway leading to the kitchen. I guess they work fine, not sure I've ever actually walked by one at night! I do like the motion sensor because it will only light up when needed and stays dark the rest of the time.

Rosarugosa. I love pretty night lights, too. I did do some looking, but found nothing in the way of basic utilitarian styled lights. The blue and white china teapot light you have sounds darling. Where did you get your specialty lights from?

CathyA. Please tell me where you bought the flickering light from. P.S. I don't recall ever coming across articles on near-sightedness associated with the use of night lights. Our first two, no night light, last four, night lights. We're one of those no-glasses families, so I'm hoping none suffered detriment.

Florence. I totally agree. We also keep a light in the hallway, but that one isn't an LED version, so in time I'd like to replace it.

Herbgeek. Yes, ours are automatic, too. I really like that.

Rosemary. I went without a night light in the baby room for #1 and #2, then I got with the times. One of the best things I did.

Tiam. My parents have one of those plug-in emergency flashlights, and is it ever nifty.

Goldensmom. If aquariums weren't so much work, I'd rally to get one. I love aquariums.

Gregg. They really are are the answer aren't they.

Re: LED night lights, do you guys think there's truth behind the "pennies per year" power-consumption claims associated with? For me, that's a really big selling feature, not to mention the life-expectancy of LED lighting in general. The LED lights we bought were good for around 100,000 hours, and IMO that's amazing.

I think they need to sleep too but every time I turn the aquarium lights off my husband turns them back on. He does the same thing in the hen house. I turn the hen house light off when daylight hours are 12+ hours/day and he turns it back on. Maybe he is afraid of the dark and thinks the fish and chickens are afraid of the dark too!! We have very tired fish and chickens.

I do in the bathrooms. I put a few scattered about when we have guests. We live in the country so no outside lights at all. On a cloudy night, it can get really dark inside!

Goldensmom. Maybe your fish are getting the last-laugh, and saying to one another, "silly people... afraid of the dark like they are!" LMAO!

Are yours, LED, too, Peggy? We've tried putting one in our upstairs bathroom, but it doesn't work in the outlet. (One of those men's razor outlets).

I use 3 night lights - the little 4 watt ones. One in each bathroom and one inbetween the kitchen and diningroom. I almost never turn on any other lights in the house unless I;m reading as those little night lights give me just enough illumination to get around the house in. Also, nothing more shocking then a 2 a.m. bathroom break and having to turn on a bright light. UGH! Those little night lights are just bright enough (also we all look 18 and great in that soft glow :-)!).

LOL, about looking 18 again, Spartana! What I'd give to go back and fetch some of that now!

I'm bad....I admit it. I just leave a lamp on in the living room. A small one by the phone. I think it's 40 wt. With some sleeping upstairs and some downstairs I don't want anyone to fall down the wood steps if they get up in the night for water or bathroom.

I got a two pack of the LED ones at Home Depot, I think. There's a switch where I can change the color of the light from a bluish purple to a greenish blue. I usually have the first color. It doesn't have a sensor, but I just leave it plugged in all the time in the bathroom.

Have a nightlight in the bathroom that connects with our bedroom. Did fine without a night light for years, but my eyes don't see as well as they used to in the dark, and I about broke my neck tripping over the poor dog in my pathway last year - so immediately got a nightlight. It is just a little bulb light that I turn on and off myself. At any given time during the night there are both cats and dogs sprawled out on the floor in various spots in our bedroom.... a night light equals safety first as we age, and safety for the critters too. ;)

Bad you are, Float On. Shame on you! :)

Tradd. You're going to love the LED's! I've really grown to love the bluish light they cast.

Wildflower. Indeed, with critters around, having a little light to navigate ones way through the night is essential.

I recall in the news studies that suggest things far worse than nearsightedness for kids with night lights. Apparently having a nightlight does not allow your body to get into the true 'deep' sleep and is very unhealthy.

Not sure how much of this is true but it made me glad my kids have never had a nightlight!

Definitely causes one to pause and think.

When I still lived in my house, I had a nightlight with a beaded shade in blues and greens. I loved that light, but the colors doh't work here at dd's. Maybe I'll have to make one in her colors. I also want to get one for the kitchen. DD keeps the kitchen light on, and light gets in my room under the door, and I don't like that. But, as dd, dsil and both dgd's are on the other side of the kitchen, they need a bit of light to get to the bathroom, apparently. Since I work in very low light conditions, I have no trouble seeing enough to get around.

Domestic Goddess. I remember as a young child, selection for night-lights was supreme! Seemed like there was an unlimited choice for styles, shapes, and designs, everywhere you looked, and everyone I knew had at least one interesting night-light in their home. I love the sounds of your idea to redesign the shade colour of your old one.
