Do you partake in gender specific nights outs?

Now that our kids are getting older and not needing 24/7 hands-on care round-the-clock anymore, I've been branching out (from my norm), and enjoying a night out lately (occasionally). Nothing seedy, just an innocent evening out and away, spent socializing with my mom and dad/sister/SIL. And, may I say, I've been really enjoying it!

I have a weekly girls night at my friends house and occasionally a girls afternoon with another friend.its fun! I am an extrovert, so I need that.

Some of my friends have given me a hard time about the fact that there is no corresponding guys night for Zach, but he is an introvert and prefers his alone time to be actual alone time watching sci fi or doing some kind of project.

Sounds like you and your husband have the best of both worlds, Stella! My husband is an even bigger introvert than I, so he, too, is right at home doing his own thing.

I probably average one night out a month for fun with friends, and a couple of other nights out for professional related events. Hubby who is a severe introvert, goes out one in a blue moon out with the boys. I also tend to visit my nephew and grand niece alone, but that's mostly because I do that during the day when hubby is working.

Shouldn't that be a "sublime" introvert? "Severe" sounds pretty negative to this accomplished loner.

I have a regular golf outing with a group of very close guy friends. The girls see us as stereotypical, which to a degree we are. We usually have a cigar and a ****tail (silly software) isn't hard to find. We talk about politics and gamble...you could lose up to $3 if you're not careful. But it is also an extremely supportive group. We talk about what is going right or wrong in our businesses to help keep everyone on track. We talk a surprising amount about relationships and how much our wives and kids mean to us/drive us crazy/do for us/etc. There are two guys in the group who don't even golf, they like it so much they just show up, rent a cart and ride around with the rest of us. When golf season closes down we meet at a pub and the same circle continues. That group meets every Thursday. By lunch time on Monday I'm looking forward to it.

I usually get together with my friends during the daytime hours, as I'm a SAHM and my DH's work hours are very unpredictable. He gets together with friends after work 1-2x/month, but has lunch with friends several times/week.

Although I'm an introvert, I need time with my friends, and without them my years as a mom would have been a lot more difficult in many ways. After a few hours of chatting, though, I'm ready to retreat to my introvert cave. :)

Not as often as I would like. We have a "book club," now in quotes because we gave up reading books when all we did was talk about life, anyway. We manage to get all of us together about every other month. Last weekend I hosted, and about an hour and a half before book club, my dad showed up to fix the electrical issue we were having in the kitchen. He knew we were having book club, but we didn't know he was coming over. When my sister, part of the group, got here, I whispered "Dad showed up right before book club! So weird!" and she said "Oh, didn't you know he was coming? I did!"

So they all saw the house, and my dad and hubby joined us for lunch. As much as I love my dad and hubby, book club just wasn't the same this time. :D

Now we have enough room to have more than just me and my Dsis for crafty time. Yippee!!!!

I had a little too much to drink some weeks ago and told my friends I'd be organizing a G & G (Girls and Gays) party for my birthday, a foray over the river to see male strippers. I've since sobered up and find that idea less appealing for a Sunday night, especially since one of my gay friends clued me in that the performances are fully nude. I do like a little left to the imagination.

So no, I don't think we'll end up doing that G & G night out after all.

Nope, sounds like fun but have never done it unless working in the kitchen with other women doing a church dinner would qualify. I get together with former work friends during the day occasionally but otherwise socializing is done as a couple. With my husbands work schedule we only see each other a few hours in the evening so I prefer to spend those hours with him.

I'm single so get together with friends - both (platonic) male and female friends - on a regular basis. Sometimes just with women (married and single), sometimes just with men (married and single), sometimes mixed (male, female, married, single). I have a regular group of guys I ride bikes with - maybe 3 days a week if I'm around. They are all married but I've known them forever and we have been riding together forever. We usually grab a meal and drinks afterwards. I also have a group of female friends (again, mostly married) that I play volleyball with several days a week. They are affectionately known as "the Housewifes from Hell" because they are soooo hardcore and competitive. Again we have a meal and a drink afterwards. Then I have mixed groups of friends that I play VB with or do other activities with - hiking, biking, etc... I don't do the bar scene thing often but occasionally a single female friend will want to go dancing or something like that so I go just to be supportive (but I hate it). I prefer to do something active with friends and not just sit around and talk or visit - or like to do that after we do something active together.

My daughters are 32 and 35. These days having a night out with the girls is spending time with them....we have a great time! :)

I meet up with my close friends about once a month for dinner. I also belong to a montly 'supper club' where we go for dinner down our main street but we're home before 10pm. And I belong to a local crafty club-again, monthly and walking distance.

Dh has a weekly 'meeting' with the neighbourhood men one evening during the week. They play darts, drink beer and get into all sorts of mischief:~)

We both look forward to our 'social' time and encourage each other to go

Just reading your schedule, Spartana, makes me tired. :) But that's great.

Yes, Wildflower, I can't wait for my daughters to get a little older so I, too, can do a "girls night out" with them.

Whoops, just seen your post, Mighty Frugal. Yeah, I think it's healthy to get out and away periodically. Provides for such a great opportunity to let ones hair down and catch a much needed breath. Love the sounds of the "supper club"!

Yes but I don't have all those little ones (and the one big DH one) to care for, pick up after, cook and clean for everyday like you do. Even household chores are very minimal since I live in a small place. So all my time is dedicated "Me Time" from sunup to sun down 7 days a week. When I come home exhausted after a long day of playing, I can just crash in front of the TV and never have to do anything again for hours. It's you SAHM's and home makers that make me tired - always on 24/7 doing for others to make their lives better. I'd be exhausted :-)!

It's funny, but until I read your post, Spartana, I never gave either 'walk' much thought. It does seem like it's what one gets used to, and then you just go from there. Minus my kids/husband, I, too, can see myself footloose and fancy-free, and just getting out there and doing whatever/whenever.

We have a circle of friends in town that gets together in various arrangements pretty regularly: kids only, parents and kids, parents only, women only, men only. Depends on what's going on at the time! We see each other less during the school year, more in the summer, including some weekend trips. I do love the "girls' nights!"

We used to do this in grad school. The guys would have a poker night, the girls would go out for drinks, we would all end up at the same place.

These days, our friends are scattered far and wide, and "girls night" means that DH is on business travel, leaving my 3-year-old and me to watch Dora the Explorer together and eat ice cream in our pajamas.

I agree, Bastelmutti, "girls nights out" are it!

Maribeth. Mom and daughter time is good, too. I find I'm enjoying that aspect of motherhood (more and more) the older my girls get.

Beyond gender specific Bible study nights we don't really get out apart from each other. I go with the girls for breakfast or lunch from time to time, but evenings we tend to reserve for time together.

Reserving time for one another once evenings roll around, says a lot IMO. Good on you, Artist. Enjoy.

Mom and daughter time is lovely. Apparently Teddy has also morphed gender in order to be included in our girls' nights.

In fact, we have a whole four-day girls' weekend coming up! Beach, aquarium, maybe a movie...

I wholeheartedly agree! Although I work, I work from home, so I get lots of this time now :D
