I know, Early Morning, uses them, anyone else? You may remember me posting a thread (a while back) re: wooden clothespins, and the mixed-stash I found through Craigslist (and bought). Anyhow, I have a good number of peg-styled pins to my name, and I'd like to start using them (or at least try using them), but am a little leery about them as to their staying/holding power. What's your experience regarding?

In my experience they are difficult to use when new but after a few uses they stretch out a little and are easier. I've only had them fail when trying to pin very bulky items. I don't use them for jeans or towels.

I have them on the drying rack in the basement. I much prefer them to the spring type ones. The ones I have must be at least 20 years old, and I never got the spring ones to last that long.

Good morning, Rosemary and Herbgeek. Thank you so much for dropping-by. The peg-pins I've got are definitely old, but when I look at them I think, "the prongs are going to snap-off/break-off the first time I slide them down over the line". Have you guys had prongs split/crack/break?

Change, has always been something that has been difficult for me. How I hate change! But there's something so old-fashioned about peg-pins I love! Love the look, love the simplicity.

As far as spring-pins go, that's all I've ever used, so I'm really used to them, and now, after my Craigslist find, the spring-pins I have are super-duty! Longevity and durability isn't something I think I'll run into with the spring-pins I have, just that I love the esthetics of the peg-pins. So classic.

Will post again in days to come after I try them!

I like the peg pins especially because I used to decorate them as dolls when I was a kid, and make Christmas ornaments (angels, Santa) from them. Can't do that with spring clips. :)

I started using some peg pins after your last post Mrs-M. They keep certain things on the line better than the spring ones. We have a lot of wind here. I noticed they stay on better with thicker things. ie: towels. I always look for clothespins at estate sales. We have our city wide sales next weekend and I will be on the look out for more.

You're right, you sure can't, Herbgeek! :)

That's great, Simpler at Fifty! If I wasn't in such a huff today over "homemaking proper-ness" (LOL), I'd give my peg-pins a whirl. Shame on me for allowing trivial stuff to get the better of me... ETSY, is another great place to look for vintage wooden clothespins!

Mrs-M, you ought to like this article, in today's New York Times Magazine:

Catherine. Thank you so much for the article! I really enjoyed it! I visited this thread late last night and read it, but was so exhausted I didn't have the energy to post.

So many times (while hanging laundry) I've thought to myself, "what an awesome invention"! And it really is. But even more so than the invention itself, is the design. There's just something so esthetically pleasing about a well-made wooden clothespin! The spring so neatly curled-up, the slender tapered wooden prongs... Unique, practical, simple, and ingenious!

Bump.

Update when you can, Simpler at Fifty. Dying to know how you're liking using wooden peg-pins.

Mrs-M - I love the peg pins. I find myself digging around in the bag to use them instead of the spring ones. I never found any at the spring or fall rummage sales but I do watch the paper for estate sales because that is probably where they will be found. My days are numbered for hanging out clothes this year. We take the lines down in the winter so I have about 10 weeks of outdoor hanging left. Thanks for asking about the pins.

How wonderful, Simpler at Fifty! Sigh... I find I always tend to reach for my old-fashioned spring-pins. Blaming it on familiarity and habit more than anything. Will try again next year, at which time, you and I can chat about wooden clothespins again! :)

P.S. Any laundry-calamities to mention since starting using peg-pins? i.e. Laundry getting away on you/falling off the line? I'm still having a hard time getting used to trusting peg-pins.
