Bank Checks: Where to Order Inexpensive Ones

I haven't ordered any blank bank checks in years because I'm 95% paperless. But I need to order some new ones for the old timers in my life & biz who shun Paypal & plastic.

Can anyone tell me where I can order bank checks cheaply?

I don't have a printer, so I can't print my own. Thanks so much!

I order the ones that come in the coupon fliers in the newspapers. Designer Checks, Checks in the Mail, there are many online to order from. If you only need one box, you get a better deal from the newspaper inserts; when ordering online, you usually have to order at least two boxes.

Never had a problem with security issues using these checks. My next ones will feature Tom & Jerry!

Thank you! These are great ideas. DH is always ordering biz cards through Vista Print, I didn't know they did checks too.

But here's the funny part. I was at the bank yesterday and HAD to go inside (ick!). The banker mentioned bill pay, and said she hasn't used printed checks in YEARS, she always sends checks through the bank's bill pay system. She totally sold me on it when she talked about how much more secure it is than paper checks, or allowing a company to automatically withdraw from your account. So, forget the paper checks I think I'll give online bill pay a shot!

I love online bill pay and have used it successfully for years. I still keep a box of checks in the house though, because there are still certain circumstances when I need them. The good news is that 1 box now lasts years.

Online bill pay is the best thing since sliced bread (and I do love my bread!) I've found that a lot of people equate it with automatic bill pay which I don't do. I like controlling my disbursements. It is simple enough to set up, but once it's set up, it's as easy as typing in a number and clicking pay. So my paper checks also last forever. I get them from Checks Unlimited. What doesn't last long enough anymore are ledgers. I like to keep a checkbook ledger with entries of all my transactions, now mostly electronic, but the ledgers are meant to last as long as the box of checks used to last. So my last purchase from Checks Unlimited was for a bunch of ledgers, which they do sell separately.

How do you order checks from these vendors - you have to give them your checking account numbers right? And your old check number? I don't think I trust them that much . . the bank already has my account information.

A word of warning on online bill pay: make sure it is you pushing out the funds from your account rather than the payee pulling the funds out. You don't want to give the electric company (for example) access to your account because you have no legal protections if they make a mistake.

Aurelia: You do indeed need to give them your checking account number, and I'll admit that concerned me a lttle bit the first time I ordered. But I've been using the same company for several years now, so that's not a worry any longer.
I do push out the funds rather than letting the payee pull them; that feels much more comfortable to me.

Our credit union is pretty much fee-free; the catch is that you must order checks through them in order to enjoy the fee-free status. A box of checks lasts so long around our house, it's practically painless to have to pay the occasional few dollars.

+1 to Aurelia's point also; I don't want to give the companies that kind of access to my account - I'd much rather use the credit union's online bill pay.
