View Full Version : SL Day... (Fictitious and for fun).

Sometimes it's nice to be able to branch-off (and away) from the serious side of this forum, and throw something (off-the-cuff) at everyone (just for kicks). Well, that's just what I'm doing with this thread topic.

So here it is. Ever wonder what fun it would be to have an SL Day? A party/bash/celebration, where we'd all converge, once, twice, maybe even three or four times a year, to have fun and see one another? Everything related to the get-together would be frugal/simple based. (Homemade treats, food, drink, and relay games would reflect all things frugal/simple living).

At any rate, thought it would be fun hearing from everyone Re:. Plus, as in my case, it's a nice way to help chase away all the cold, rainy, and miserable weather we've been having.

Well, I posted recently on road trips and I often thought I'd love to cross the country and meet up at a coffee shop with any of my SL friends that were available at the time.... perhaps culminating in a trip to Vancouver, Mrs-M!

I love the party idea--even regional ones periodically. Maybe summer would be the best time because you could picnic at a state/county park.

Well let’s see—

Shadowmoss would bring her world famous cherry jello dish.;)

Mrs. M would buzz around getting everyone drinks and making people feel at home

Redfox would organize games and would be out there cheering and clapping. Fidgie and Anne Lee would play because they are good sports. Spartana would womp everyone’s *ss.

Jane and I, not good sports, would sit back and sip wine, staying far away from anything resembling a game or physical exercise unless someone offers a garden tour, and in that case I’d jump up and spring toward that as I am always interested in seeing plants in cultivation.

Stella’s kids would complete the craft project and would make gifts of them to people there.

bae would have a new knife thingie with him and would demonstrate its utility by quickly paring down large pieces of wood into kindling for a fire to roast marshmallows. When the overly technical fire starter thingie stops working, Alan would mess with it until it works.

What else would happen at our SL picnic?

Pretty close, except I'd have brandy. I'd be wearing my latest thrift finds set off with flashy CZ bits. And comfortable shoes. Zoebird would lead an impromptu yoga session, which we would politely decline to attend.

What fun that would be, Catherine!

Iris Lily. I love the 'twist' you incorporated into this thread Re: members, and how you placed specific ones to meet certain convention positions/criteria!

Catherine, would be in charge of overseeing and ensuring everything runs smooth, scurrying around like a busy little mouse, checking up on everybody.

Iris Lily, would be in charge of all things botanic. Weeds be-damned!

JaneV2.0, would casually schmooze with the crowd, using her well-rounded range of knowledge to invite and engage conversation.

Artist, would make for one of the best VIP guests in attendance, settling in with a warm and friendly group and relaxing over good conversation and a delicious beverage!

Alan, would be in charge of all things recreational (as in motorcycles/vehicles), ensuring safe parking for all.

Stella, would have her apron on, dishing up all sorts of baked goodies for everyone!

Tussiemussies, where is she? Oh, look... she's over there, with Rosemary, Bastelmutti, Sweetana3, Sissy, and Cattledog, talking about all things crafting and hobbies!

Miss Cellane, oh, good... she has her clipboard with her. No worries, everyone will be accounted for and ensured a rightful spot (and place).

Spartana... "hey, over here, that's enough bugging, Alan, come on over and visit us for a while would you"! LOL!

More to come!!!

Mrs-M
5-23-12, 11:21am
Gregg, well... he'd just be in there like a dirty shirt having a great old time!

Float On, "where are you Float On"??? Oh, look, everybody, she's way over there... sitting with Goldensmom, CathyA, Dado Potato, and Storyteller!

Gregg44, oh- oh... here comes trouble!!! ROTFLMAO!

Spartana... "hey, over here, that's enough bugging, Alan, come on over and visit us for a while would you"! LOL!

"Alan, let me ride your motorcycle...pleeezeeeee"? (whine, whine :-)!). Well I'd be hanging with Iris Lily and Jane drinking wine AND brandy while we ranted about the state of the world to each other - and letting everyone else do the work of course :-)! Then I'd round up all of Stella's and Mrs. M's kids for a killer game of volleyball!

Like Catherine, I always thought it would be fun (in real life not just pretend) to visit some of the SLers while on road trips. I know some member have done that 9Ihamo and Redfox and maybe HK Passey).

Just to remind you what you're missing:

WAH!!!!!!!!! I'm jealous! OK the last guy who let me take his bike out for a "quick spin" (taking his wife along with me) didn't see either of us for the rest of the day ;-)! Well since we are in "pretend" mode here I'll just bring my own "pretend" MC to our SL get together so there!!

And just to remind you Alan, that once you are retired you can load up your bike like me and hit the open road for months at a time!! Who's jealous now :-)!! 43 year old Spartana (of the "my legs really aren't that chubby it's just the photo" crazy shorts on a motorcycle ride) heading out on a loooonnnng MC trip to celebrate her retirement.

I'll be hanging with Iris looking at gardens, avoiding anything too stenuous, definitely not playing any volleyball. Volleyball under the influence can be dangerous, don't you know! ;) I'll bring something that looks kinda foo foo but was really very easy to make. And then maybe after, go kayaking with Float On in the local pond if I wasn't making crafts with Stella's girls.

And just to remind you Alan, that once you are retired you can load up your bike like me and hit the open road for months at a time!! Who's jealous now :-)!!

To be honest, I am jealous of the retirement thing. But in a few years, when I finally am, we'll continue to travel like this:

http://lefttoright.net/images/motorhome.JPG

In the meantime, we'll do several shorter motorcycle only trips this summer, starting in a few weeks (after school is out) with a visit to the Red River Gorge (http://www.redrivergorge.com/)in central Kentucky, followed by trips to Tennessee, the Carolinas and the Virginia's (including West).

Look for us there if you're out and about!

Spartana
5-23-12, 3:27pm
OK now I'm even MORE jealous :-)! Yep, I'm at the age (ancient) when travelling by motorcycle and tent camping for long periods of time isn't as fun as it was 10 or so years ago. Rving with a MC in tow is definetly the way to go - or at least riding a MC and staying at motels (something I have been very tempted by since the rise in gas prices). Not sure how to do it with a little dog though. She's sort of scared even in the truck (could it be my driving :-)!). Although I did see some cute pink leather MC jackets for dogs online - she may be scared by she'll be fashionable :-)! Red River Gorge looks like a great place - I've never even heard of it. Looks like a fun place to visit - hot though at 97 on Sat (yikes!!). And of course I'd bring my little ratdog (not the dog below) to our SL picnic as should everyone else bring their pets.

Well I guess if people can ride their MC's with their cows, I can find a way to ride with my dog :-)!

Awesome pictures, Alan and Spartana!

Herbgeek. Darn it all anyway... I had plans on mentioning a handful more members, you being one of them, but I felt as though I should allow a few others to get in on the fun. P.S. Keep an eye on, Iris. A close eye. :)

It really would be fun, wouldn't it, Artist.

P.S. Spartana. I do love the sounds of the volleyball game! What a hoot that would be!

Absolutely sounds fun. VIP guest.... intresting. For the record: A little juice in the Goose and no umbrella. : ) Oh and I like volleyball. I'm horrible at it, but it's fun all the same.

Iris Lily, would be in charge of all things botanic. Weeds be-damned!

I have been known to weed at social gatherings when I am bored. At our SL gathering I'd borrow bae's knife thingy and test it out on trees, pruning branches and maybe even felling them to let any nearby helpless little lilies gain access to the sunlight. treehugger (aka kara) would probably wrestle me for that knife to take it away!

Float On
5-24-12, 10:43am
Hey we are meeting at a State Park with a lake right????

I'm out there organizing kayaking jaunts and barely make it back in time for veggie kabobs on the grill.

Mrs-M
5-24-12, 11:15am
That's the fun part about get-togethers, isn't it, Artist, letting ones hair down and just having fun. Celebrations and organized gatherings are perfect occasions for that.

Loudspeaker in hand, "no tree felling, Iris Lily:...

It's OK, Float On, I saved you a large plate of roasted pig! You should have seen all the members who came back for second helpings... Rogar, Mighty Frugal, Early Morning, and the list goes on.

treehugger
5-24-12, 12:03pm
Save the trees!! Especially if we are at a state park. :) Iris, I am certainly not against judicious pruning, but I hate the sun (I mean, I'm not against its existence, but I burn and get heat stroke easily), so I need my shade sources.

I'm bringing homemade sourdough bread and hummus. And my greyhounds. They love a picnic.

Oh dear. I'll do everything I can to keep you entertained, Iris Lily. Gratuitous planticide is a pet peeve of mine. Failing at that (more likely than not), i'll be ordering up more brandy.

I would be sitting and drinking wine with the others. After awhile I would take a walk with my 3 little dogs in tow, taking the opportunity to try and talk to everyone, even though I tend to be on the shy side I would want to meet you all!

I would bring along some goodies I baked myself, and I would show everyone pics of my beautiful grandkids, but only a couple as not to bore you all too much. And you all would say to me that I look much too young to be a Grandma. ;) LOL

WorldFoodie
5-25-12, 3:50am
I'll be roaming about just chatting with everyone, remembering post and old timers, then creating new memories.
Also I'll be sampling all the cheeses and home brews (wine and beer). Next I'll try to find someone who wants to forage about the area or perhaps start a discussion on a SL topic. Ok, time for a brief nap....zzzzz

Mrs-M
5-25-12, 1:35pm
Wildflower. There's a part of me that can't wait to become a grandma! I've never been one who fancies spoiled rotten little ones, but I'm 99.99% sure, my grand-little ones will be spoiled! :)

WorldFoodie. Y-u-m-m-y! The variety of cheeses sounds de-licious! I'll make sure there's a nice comfy lounge waiting just for you, for your afternoon nap! :)

Spartana
5-25-12, 4:01pm
And lets not forget the "Peggy and Alan Show" :-)! Good hearted bantering about politics and the state of the Union. Then Peggy can make all us crazy gun owners little tin foil hats from the left over food wrappings and Iris Lily will stop killing trees long enough to use Bae's knife-thingie to dig us a bunker :-)!

I'll bring the veggie hotdogs and veggie burgers, and a giant cake...gotta have cake!

JaneV2.0
5-26-12, 11:26am
Can I get one of those foil hats? I love the woo woo stuff, so it seems appropriate.

Will someone please confiscate Iris Lily's chainsaw? Or at least divert her attention? The noise!

I'll bring a vat of tom kha gai and trays of spicy deviled eggs.

Mrs-M
5-26-12, 12:07pm
LOL, Spartana! You bring such great colour to this home of ours! Love you! And yes please on the cake!!! And being the SL'rs that we are, we shall have our cake and eat it, too!

Jane. Iris, really is pushing the envelope, isn't she... LMAO! Not to worry, I just spoke to her husband, and he's promised to rein her in. ROTFLMAO! Apparently, she needs that!

We need at least as many trees so we can hang our hammocks - we will need naps to rest up for a campfire evening. Don't forget to bring some instruments. If you play anything...we want to hear it.

Your hammock idea sounds great, Float On! Only problem with me and hammocks, once I settle into one, there's no prying me out!

Took a few pictures of families already making their way to the get-together! See if you recognize any.

I remember hearing that she used a hollow reed as a snorkel until Float On could pick her up downstream. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/vishenka/l_diver.gif Which is probably why you haven't been contacted by authorities. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/snoozer/Policeman.gif Also, I swear that's her voice yelling "I know you are, but what am I!" from the direction of the Simple Public Policy scrim.

Oh, wow! take a few days off and look what happens!!!!!! Am I just too late? Please, no?????
Ok, for all of us tee-tottlers, I am bringing genuine southern sweet iced tea!

Now, how many of us do you think we could recognize from our posts??? I will be the one with the sporty sunglasses and drooly chin.

I'll bring my guitar. Maybe kally will bring along her Native American flute. :)

Sign me up for a mandolin and harmonicas. They seem to work pretty well at picnics.

I like the way you think Bronxboy!

early morning
5-28-12, 11:17am
Am I too late for the picnic?? I'm gonna see if I can get some planting help from Iris, including how to make ivy let go of my lilies!! Also need to see how she uses Bae's knife to prune back some out-of-control shrubberies - practical stuff like that - ;) AFTER an appropriate amount of wine and brandy, of course. I don't play music but I'll volunteer to be an enthusiastic listener! And DD will bring lots of cookies and cupcakes - her specialties. Also need to visit with Mrs. M. about clothespinning techniques, with more wine, of course! We need to meet near a vineyard, so we can resupply and keep it local, lol.

Mrs-M
5-28-12, 12:18pm
What a hoot this is!

No need to worry, the party/celebration has not yet begun. Think of this gathering like Woodstock, people coming from all around, both close and from afar, trekking, migrating, and navigating. It's a slow process, but one that will surely reach a celebratory crescendo once everyone is together and in the midst of one another!

Iris Lily and Jane, Peggy, is a survivor (body, mind, and spirit).

Sissy. Can't wait to taste your home-brew! Re: recognizing members strictly on the merits of their posts, I never thought of that scenario, but what a fun one it is! One of the dead-giveaways Re: myself, my large family! LOL!

Good on you, Bronxboy! We already have one particular individual we will all need to keep a close eye on, we don't need another... :)

Love the guitar and flute ideas, Wildflower!

Yes, please, Gregg, on the mandolin and harmonica playing!

Early Morning. Putting in a request to your daughter, for a few sprinkle-coated cupcakes, my favourite! Re: clothes-pinning techniques, can't wait to sit down with you, over! Ever since becoming a member here, I have always thought of you as the clothesline-drying/clothes-pinning master! You've been doing it longer than me, so I just know I'll be able to learn a thing-or-two from you!

Mrs-M
5-28-12, 2:32pm
And... because I know there will be a whole lot of makeshift clothesline making/drying going on, I'll bring my cache of wooden clothespins in case anyone runs out.

5-28-12, 3:48pm
Don't forget the jar to play drop the clothespin. Maybe 2, because I have a feeling that some will be seeing double before the day is over. ROTFLMA

BTW, if we can bring our other halves, my DH makes the very best Southern fried chicken.....honest!!!!!!

Mrs-M
5-28-12, 11:53pm
Thanks for the idea, Sissy! Setting two jars (for play) off to the side for packing.

Re: bringing other-halves, absolutely, positively! Halves (and quarters) welcome! LMAO!

5-29-12, 7:35pm

Moderation in all things, including moderation....

After all, this is an SL gathering.

The clothespin photo was funny!

We should have a laundry hanging race.

Mrs-M
5-30-12, 12:10am
ROTFLMAO, Bronxboy!

You read my mind, Iris Lily! Re: the clothespin pic, aside from my friendly offer, I was also secretly hoping to cause a little psychological stir in Early Morning, by posting it. Hoping that she would see it and see that I, too, now own old-fashioned wooden peg-pins (just like her), and if I were her, I'd be some worried over the stiff competition that she will be up against (and will surely meet) at the convention!

So, Early Morning, if you read/see this, you had better be ready! I'm just saying... :)
