DD is working on her Masters in horn performance. She unfortunately didn't pass last year. She has worked so VERY hard for the past year........also sort of starting all over, since she developed a nerve problem in her lip because she wasn't using the right muscles (which her undergrad instructors sort of missed). Anyhow........she had her repeat recital Tuesday, and she was AMAZING!!! As I've mentioned in another post, she took Inderal this time to control her horrible performance anxiety, plus she's been working on natural ways of calming herself. We're so very proud of her!
I wish we could have had our film-maker son make a short film out of the whole thing. I suppose some people might have thought the conditions surrounding the location of her recital were bad, but I actually thought it was great! There was so much texture and richness, in a very ordinary way.
All the recital halls were taken at her university, so she had to go to an inner-city church in the city there to have her recital. There was a cafe attached to the sanctuary, only separated by old wooden folding doors.
There was no air conditioning and it was very hot..........so they opened the stained glass windows. Right outside was a fairly busy street. Plus, she had 3 box fans directed towards her, so she wouldn't pass out from the heat. We all sat on metal folding chairs.
During her recital, of playing some of the most incredible/technically advanced music.........there were loud buses occasionally going by, loud cars with their radios cranked up, motorcycles, and sounds of the cappuccino machine coming from the cafe. In spite of all these distractions, she still did great!
It was a really neat experience.........the cafe was sort of filled with modern day hippie-types; the building was old and filled with squeaking wooden floors and doors and beautiful stained glass. It was just the perfect texture!
I think the whole experience will be forever indelibly etched in my mind. And she passed!!
