So, while listening to the radio the other day I heard a woman talking about a whacked out boyfriend she'd had and how he scared her by driving way too fast, trying to get her to scream or beg, etc.

She mentioned that she'd thought about reaching over and turning off the key, but that she didn't know what would happen.

I realized I don't know either. Anyone here know what would happen if you turned off the key on a car doing highway speeds?

Thanks,

Cecilia

You will coast to a stop. Power steering would not work and power brakes would become difficult to use. If you turned the key into the 'locked' position, your steering wheel may lock. I believe that should only happen if the brakes are applied and the transmission is in park, but I wouldn't depend on that.
