We had to be sort of forceful with our vet, that our dog was hypothyroid, but the second set of thyroid labs showed that it was, indeed, happening.
I started Suzi, (9 year-old mixed breed) on .6mg of Thyroxin today. She didn't have the frank symptoms, like skin problems, severe lethargy, etc., that some dogs have with low thyroid, but she definitely was sleeping most of the time and had lost her usual energy. Also, she couldn't lose weight, despite being on a diet. She just wasn't herself.
Just curious if any of you ever had a dog on thyroid replacement?
If her labs were borderline, I would wait. But Suzi's are very abnormal. Also, I've read in many articles that a dog can lose almost 90 percent of their thyroid function before it really shows clinically.
Anyone else have a low thyroid puppy dog?
