I recently started volunteering at a local public library, to get more experience in case I decide to pursue my MLS.

They have offered me a temporary 25 hour per week position for the summer and I have accepted. Please cross your fingers that it becomes permanent or even full time. If I keep this job and my other library job (which starts up again in Aug.) I may actually be able to make ends meet!

I am SO very grateful!!!

Good job! That's what I'd like to do when I retire...

If that day ever comes...

Well, I am still there...and it's working out OK. However, I found out they have NO benefits other than a day off here and there. Go figure...

So if they offer me full time work, I am going to have to negotiate higher pay...or something! I feel uncomfortable with the situation. If anyone has ever found themselves in a similar situation, please share with me how you dealt with it.

Remember, this is the first work I've had in about 3 years!

frugalone,
Do you like the job and the work environment? If so, I would take it. I've worked as an independent contractor and I pay $125.00 a month for catastrophic health insurance. It works for me, and it's a deduction on your taxes. (Unless they are paying you as an employee.)
I remember reading a post a while back about someone who was volunteering at the library and people weren't doing their dishes or cleaning up after themselves. Was that you? Did that situation get resolved?
Congratulations on getting the work in this economy! That's excellent!

awakenedsoul: For the most part, I do like the job and environment. I'm not an independent contractor, however.

I don't know if that was me who posted about the volunteering. I started as a volunteer and was hired shortly thereafter. It could have been me, as sometimes those situations occur in my house.

Thanks for your good wishes. I am very happy to be working again and I am more grateful than I probably sound in this forum! ;)

frugalone,
It was happening at the library. It must have been someone else. I was just curious. It's nice to hear that your volunteer position led to a job offer!
