Where can I get good quality raw nuts and seeds at a good price? I am eating 50% raw, and am burning through the nuts and seeds bought at the very expensive local whole foods. Is there a good online source?

Hi butterfybreath,
At frontier herbs co-op they have a page that has seeds and I think nuts too. I'm posting the URL, when you get there look through the menu on the left side it is listed there:

P.S. Looks like you can get bulk seeds there, but not the nuts...
ButterflyBreath, I did a quick Web search of food cooperatives near Winston-Salem and came up with:
- Triad Buying Coop ( http://tbcoop.org/ ). There is a charge to become a member and an annual maintenance charge, but you can visit them before putting down any money and I'm guessing that will give you an idea of their prices as well;
- there are some health-food stores (perhaps one near you) that may offer a discount if you're buying larger quantities;
- you could look in the local "yellow pages" for "food wholesalers"; they may carry items in quantities/discounts more like what you're looking for.
Finally, if you can shop at a conventional grocery store and find what you're looking for, you might talk to the manager about at least a case discount. That may not work at WF. Then again, it might -- you could ask SiouxzQ. (sp?); she just started working at a WF (there's an "Update" thread in the Work forum) so she may know who you could talk with.

I get my nuts at Costco. I don't think they carry raw nuts, though. The prices are excellent! It would definitely save you money. They sell pine nuts: I think they're raw, but I'm not sure. Also, Trader Joes has bagged raw sunflower seeds and cashews, and their prices are much lower that the grocery stores.
Also check at the farmer's markets to see who might be growing them and when they expect the harvest.
