Well, my storybook garden is under attack. I've hardly seen any jap beetles this year, probably because of the drought and the heat........but a few of them have shown up and are eating my bean plants. But so far, its just the Blue Lake pole beans. I used to catch them in a jar of soapy water and shake it until they were dead, but I've become too sensitive about killing things these days, and it bothers me to do that. I just resort to spraying them off the plants with water.........but that lasts about 20 seconds. I suppose if my family were starving I could kill them, but 'til then, I'll try to figure out another way. They sure work fast. If they do too much damage, I'll get madder and might consider drowning them. I don't squish bugs.....even though that might be the more humane way...........

So sorry CathyA.
I actually beat the beetles on my beans this year by planting so early. By the time the beetles showed up I'd already picked three times. They were starting in on the beans about the same time the rabbit gang showed up.
