View Full Version : Straining yogurt

I have begun straining my plain yogurt in a cone type coffee filter. I am making a very tasty thick Greek style yogurt. My question is does anybody know of a use for the resulting whey liquid? It seem very wasteful to just pour it down the drain.

You can use it in baking or other cooking in place of water, milk, or juice.

Is there any other way to use it since we don't bake? Sounds unappetizing for me in cooking. We do have our dog -- would it be good for her to eat?

I read somewhere that you can add it to your soaking water for beans/grains/legumes to increase digestibility and to marinades for meats. Also, if you make smoothies it would be healthful to add to.

Thanks Tiam for the information...

Try adding it to smoothies?

You can use it in baking or other cooking in place of water, milk, or juice.

Specifically, it's actually very good for adding to yeast breads in place of the called-for water. It adds protein and nutrients and the whey has properties that the yeast likes to work with.

Thanks for the answers. I will probably save it for smoothies since I'm gluten intolerant.
