View Full Version : Name three things you are really enjoying in your life.....
Its always easy to talk about things that make you mad or things you struggle with but I'd love to hear some good news today. So tell me three things you are really enjoying in your life right now.
1. Early morning kayaking. Seeing the sun rise and watching the wildlife just puts things in perspective for me. This morning it was just some deer and herons and a few fish and turtles.
2. My newest batch of chickens are starting to lay eggs (remember when I got this group in February? I think their chick photo is in my album) any way watching them grow up and reach hen status and their pride at laying an egg is a good thing.
3. Finding a 'you made a sale' email on my etsy account. I'm doing better on there every month. Shipping bowls to FL and AZ this morning. The added income is much needed.
1) I'm passionate about lilies and iris. Does that count as one or two? My non-work life is consumed from April through October with these plants. For instance, we are winding down lily bloom time but coming up is bulb harvest--I love that almost as much as bloom time. Digging up plump healthy bulbs, seeing how much each mother bulb has increased--it's like finding hidden treasure under the earth. The rest of the garden is nice but it's not my overriding passion.
2) I love my neighborhood and this city, the architecture. There is always something interesting to look at.
See, none of that is new. I'd like to introduce one new thing to freshen my outlook on life. I didn't mention bulldogs because at the moment, bulldogs are more of a chore than a pleasure. We just took in a rescue dog who is aggressive toward our own dogs, so for the next several weeks I've got to keep everyone separated and that is a giant PITA plus it is scary because my little Frenchie girls could get seriously hurt from this big aggressive guy. He is such a contrast from our last foster dog who was sweet and gorgeous, even a contrast from the previous foster male dog who smoothly managed "the girls" and didn't let them get the best of him bit didn't rip into them, either.
1. DGS is visiting for the week so we are really enjoying him
2. Walking with friends the trails left over from the old rail lines
3. Enjoying the peace and quiet first thing in the morning out on our deck sipping the first cup of tea
1. Seeing that all the watering I'm going to my garden is paying off....and loving the new garden fence (I know that's 2)
2. Seeing my kids happy and healthy (at least most of the time!)
3. Taking rides in my golf cart and seeing all the wildlife/plants/trees and looking at the beautiful cloud formations and feeling the breeze.
There's so much more! Thanks for reminding us to focus on these things!!

1) Good tea
2) Growing friendships
3) New-to-me books
1. My health. So important.
2. Owning our own home.
2. Gardening. I love this time of year! Watering, gardening, and just being outside.
1. The garden is providing something fresh for me to eat almost every day.
2. My nephew who lives in Miami is in the area for the next few days and I'll get to see him.
3. I'm feeling much better now after my stationery bike accident last Thursday. The bike is actually a real bike on a trainer, and the bolt attaching the seat to the frame sheared off, I fell backwards scraping the backs of my legs pretty bad and landed on my left wrist which was already damaged in another accident and is pretty weak.
and throwing in a 4th one just for this week: a/c. Supposed to be hot humid and in the 90s setting new records this week.
1) Leisurely time spent with dh whether it is shopping for ethnic groceries, cooking or going to a movie. We mostly very much enjoy each other's company
2) Our two Siamese cats - I love watching their behavior together and amusing antics.
3) My health is very good these days and I am very grateful. I spent five years with severe anemia and now that I am well, I realize how much of life I missed due to feeling bad.
1. Not having crappy job woes ruining my life outside of actual working hours!
2. Having the time AND energy doing all the things I've wanted to do for a long time, like working my gardens, growing vegetables, playing more guitar, reading more, doing a little more socializing and more relaxing.
3. Becoming more fit and eating well, and loosing enough weight to where I finally feel like I'm in my "right" body for the first time in a long time.

1. Just now, for the first time in 5 long years of our personal recession, my DH and I are easily making ends meet and beginning to pay off long-standing debts, and able to start planning for the future. Ahhhhhhhh, such a relief!
2. I am still really enjoying my bread-making adventure. There is always something new to try, new mistakes to learn from, new skills to master. Yesterday, I made hot dog buns for the first time. I didn't shape them right (too short and too wide), but I learned a lot for next time, and they still tasted delicious. 1,000 times better than anything the grocery store sells.
3. Our greyhound rescue group brought in 25 new dogs from Florida yesterday and I love hearing from all the excited new adopters. Saturday was the 5th anniversary of when we adopted our first, Mandy, and I still remember those feelings so clearly.

1) time spend outdoors, just lying around doing nothing! I'll just lie in a park (literally lying around) and listen to the birds do their symphony, the squirrels run on the branches etc..
2) involvement in my local community, investment in a better world (that may never come but ...)
3) uhm, I have nothing much to put for a 3rd thing, I guess I enjoy buying books and as always I enjoy the wealth of information available for virtually free on the internet. I enjoy learning about health.
Many variations of salads and iced teas. Mellow weather. A generous bounty of library books.
1. My son.
2. My daughter.
3. My other daughter.
Yea, yea, I know its corny. Now that they are all old enough to have lives independent of my constant input they have become fascinating people in addition to the loves of my life. It's a pretty cool development.

Great thread!
1. My garden is producing like mad! I'm so excited to be harvesting fruits and vegetables every day! Made a rhubarb crisp with homegrown organic rhubarb, and it was delicious!
2. My bicycle. I've been using it to run all my errands, and it's such a great money saver. It gives me a good workout, and I actually prefer cycling to driving now.
3. My knitting classes! I learned to knit as a child when I was nine. I just picked it up again, and am meeting such nice people. It's fun to be making my own dishcloths, dishrags, and pot holders. They make my cottage look so old fashioned and homey. I love the precision, detail, discipline, and meditative aspect of it. It's also a very inexpensive hobby!
1. Living close to a river which is left very much in a natural state. At night time, I can hear owls hooting and frogs crocking.
2. My cats.
3. Cooking with herbs from my garden. I made the finest pasta sauce with fresh bay leaf, Thai basil, rosemary and oregano from my kitchen garden.
Talking to my 19 year old. He has suddenly become more open with me and he has a pretty good perception on things.
The hot weather which makes it possible to lay on my swing at night and look at the stars
all the fun things there are to do around here in the summer such as live music.
The long, long summer evenings on the back deck.
My work, which is really enjoyable this summer (now that things have slowed down a bit).
Did I mention summer? Long evenings? Warm weather and time spent on the deck? After two years of construction it is just a pleasure to sit and listen to the evening birdsong and noises from the neighborhood. And I am pretty happy looking at the perennial beds now that they are reconstructed.
Nice thread, FloatOn. What a great idea.
1. Finding a hairstylist that knows how to cut curly hair.
2. Helping a few family members become financially stable in the last year, and now everyone's able to relax and enjoy each other more socially now that day to day living is calm.
3. Doing a staycation this year, including our fantastic resort-like city pool for only $1.
1. My family. We have our issues, like any other, but overall I think we're in a good place. Kids are doing well emotionally, socially and academically and I'm enjoying seeing them grow up/thinking about who they are going to become as adults. I've been trying to put some more effort into improving my relationship with DH, and I think that is working. Generally we are in a pretty good spot, I think. Always room for improvement, but starting from a good foundation
2. Our finances. We have been very lucky, but a big part of that is consistently LBOM and not wavering from our investment plan even when the market is tanking. Actually continuing to DCA through the downturns has been instrumental in kicking our net worth into another gear entirely. We could probably be FI now if we were willing/interested in making some changes, like quitting our jobs and selling our apartment. Not quite there yet. We'll see how things go the next 3-10 years. Early retirement is likely, but we want to keep working for now.
3. My job. I have my bad days like anyone does, but for the most part I love my job and the people I work with. We are ending one cycle of grants and I am getting tons of messages from my grantees saying how much they have appreciated my support and hard work. It is so nice to be appreciated!

Currently I am really enjoying swimming with this mega heat wave we're having.
Had a fun filled and wonderful week long visit with my 8 year old granddaughter. :)
My garden is producing some amazing tomatoes right now in spite of the heat. Oh, how I love tomatoes!
I am enjoying the venture of becoming a part of a new cooperative gallery. I already know many of the artists and it's such a wonderful experience to work together towards a common goal. I'm also doing prints of my work for the first time for this gallery so I look forward to seeing how that is recieved.
I am enjoying my bike. Being able to get around town without having to take the car is such a blessing.
I am enjoying my time with my husband. I cherrish everyday I have to spend with him. Can't believe we will celebrate 20 year of marriage next week.

+ Finishing work early every day this summer, since we've been displaced while our building is being refurbished (we've got no work to do!)
+ Being conscious of the fact that my life goals are shifting in a not-so-subtle way. It's strangely exciting!
+ The prospect of catching up with long-distance friends this summer

Fixing up the cabin I bought in February. It's the DIY that's fun, but the results have been pretty amazing as well.
Writing. I gave up writing because I felt I was mediocre and would never be a successful author. I've come back to writing without the pressure of trying to create a product, and I'm enjoying it immensely.
My continuing experiments in permaculture - fascinating to see what works and what doesn't.
1--my animals
2--my house
3--my daily hike/walk
My music lessons. I love to play, and the more I play, the happier it makes me.
Grad school. It's hard, but I'm starting to do my research, and I'm really enjoying it. Plus part of my research is to be in the woods in the mountains scouting for plants, and I absolutely love that.
My apartment and my neighborhood. I can walk to so many things (including school each day). I figured out this weekend that I only have to drive 3 days a week, and one of those days I could possibly eliminate if I can work out the bus schedule.
My daughter -- learning to sew this week!
My bicycle
The weekly pub quiz
Patients and families of patients voicing their appreciation for care/services received
The insight and energy of teenagers. Bonus when one gives me a hug.
Balance in the work/life time demands. Free time to read or come here.

My husband, our home, a stroll through a bookshop or library.
1. Celebrating the Pagan Holiday Lammas by picking the first mature peach from my three year old tree in the back yard. I enjoyed it for breakfast.
2. Paperbackswap - This book exchange site helps me indulge in my whims and fancies of the moment. I love to trade and receive.
3. My new Avatar, she makes me feel beautiful. Now, thanks to friends on this forum, I have a means of visual expression that fits who I am.
1. The free time I am currently enjoying because I am only working part-time at my two jobs. That will change soon, so I am enjoying my leisure while I can.
2. My cats.
3. My sewing projects.
1) My yappy little dog who amusing me to no end - infruriates me too.
2) Being free from work or other "obligations" so I can do whatever I want each day
3) (probably the most important thing) Having good health and fitness as well as the use of all my "parts" (creaky ones included :-)!) so I can do the things I enjoy.
1) sports. I love the freedom when i just feel the wind in my face, when no one controls me and i´m all on my own
2) my family and friends - because they´re always cheering me up when ii dpn´t feel well
3) may sound stupid, but i like those days i have no reason for being sad. just those easy, luny days when you´re not doing much but lying in the sun, reading a little bit and feeling a kind of inner balance.
i think these are all impoortant, so it´s not that the first is the most important..
